yikes, that 808s Green tube sold for $300. I guess all this yaking about it here really opened up the market. Looks like they listed another Blue tube, or just re-listed the first one. I bet it doesn't go for $26. this time.

Brand spanking new
Delivered by Fed EX in perfect condition
Came in the OEM box with all the manuals, etc.
Iris also brand new in it's own box.
Line doubler installed
But did I mention before that this Barco Graphics 808s is brand spanking new!
Now I have decisions to make.
I have a set of P16's LC tubes and 120 mhz neckboards in my other 808s LC, do I swap these in and have a brand new Barco Graphics 808s LC?
Or do I just leave it like it is and just swap the lenses for HD 144's or the set of HD 128's I have.
But I already have a G 808s with HD 144's and P16's.
Are the Sony tubes as sharp as the Panasonic P16's? You always hear that the P16's are sharper with a smaller beam spot, but you also hear that the Sony's are sharp too.
Has anyone seen or compared these first hand?
But converting it to LC definitely has it's appeal.
But one thing is for sure.....looking at a brand spanking new G 808s, with everything set to factory spec, with all it's chassis screws present, perfect case and with a functional and attached remote door......is just AWESOME

YOU SUCK!!!!
And, err... if you find yourself with... you know, extra tubes... eh... *trails off to silence, puts hands in pockets, turns around, and shuffles away with head down*

The P16's have a 20% smaller spotsize compared to the regular DVB180's used in the DATA808s model.
The Sony tubes are at least as sharp as the P16's. When properly set-up you will have scanlines at 1080p with these tubes.
There is nothing like new tubes. The lightoutput and sharpness are unmatched compared to used tubes. Get it properly color calibrated though, that is so important for a machine in this condition and in this league. A properly calibrated projector will give you extended life with maximum picture quality (and contrast-setting!). Don't be cheap and watch a low contrast picture 'just to save the tubes'. New tubes are meant to be used properly which means watching a picture with a lot of punch! A low contrast picture is not something you want when you can have a high contrast picture.
New tubes rule! 8)

Thanks for the info.
But I still have to decide if I leave it like it is and just install the HD 128 lenses on it (or HD144's), or convert it to an LC with the set of P16's LC from my other projector.
My other 808s LC started as a Data 808s LC and I converted it to a Graphics 808s LC and also added the 120 mhz neckboards.
So the question is....is LC worth the trouble of tube swapping.

Did you notice a big difference the first time you swapped ?
You do now have an ac AC and LC projector to directly compare so come back and let us know
I found that unless your room is a dedicated DARK light controlled room the difference was negligible.
When I made a dedicated 3 seat ALL SURFACE VERY BLACK FABRIC room the difference between AC and LC was incredible! The room's Ansi performance finally outperformed the poor AC projector Ansi performance and I had to go to LC .
I played with Masking the sides of the tube housings and tubes with felt , that made a big difference from reducing the light spill between tubes.
The Color filtered lenses will SLIGHTLY help with haloing.

Yeah, I know.... I have an 808s LC.
But with my other 808s AC projector haloes were never a real obvious issue but (also had no streaking with the set of 75mhz neckboards) I also use a set of HD 144 which some say reduces the halo effect.
The issue is if it is worth the trouble to end up with a true G 808s LC that would be basically brand new. Remember, my current G 808s LC is really a converted modified Data 808s with probably less than three thousand hours on the chassis.
My other G 808s is modded to use P16 tubes and HD 144 lenses and has the 75 mhz neckboards that "don't know their limitations" since they perform like the higher bandwidth 120's and show no streaking and can do 1080p extremely well during movie watching...yeah patterns and special tests will show their obvious weaknesses, but I don't sit in my HT watching patterns.

Bruce,
I've had both for a while, before I got this brand new one.
Yeah, there was a difference, but I always had a dedicated light controlled room and I think that is the reason that although there was a difference between the AC and the LC projectors, the difference was not that dramatic when I swapped the 808s with HD 144's with the 808s LC with HD 18's. Note that both have the same P16 tubes.

Well the next thing to do is a direct comparison in your room , then post how this new projector absolutely kicks the sh*t out of your old projector,, BUT your wife won't let you go through the hassle again ....... then sell it !!! While quietly enjoying your( nearly identical performing ) already setup projector
OR buy my blending unit, send it two 1280 by 1024 signals on a 2:40 AR screen and use both

Messing around with tube swapping to end up with a "true" new chassis G 808s LC is appealing in itself.
I have three working pjs and I really need two and a parts machine with no tubes or lenses to have peace of mind.
So I would like to end up selling one of the AC sets of the tubes that I have and a set of HD lenses.
So do I sell the new P16's or the brand new Sony's.
If I sell the Sony's I would definitely swap the LC P16's into the new chassis, if I sell the AC P16 set then I would definitely leave everything like it is now and end up with a brand new G 808s with HD 128's and my current 808s LC and a chassis for backup.
