In undergrad picked up an ampro 2000D. Loved it. Great attention getter. Went to grad school and projector had to stay home for 4 years. I'm back and it's set up again. However during the 4 yrs it sat in my closet unused it became jealous and hostile. Cause now it's not working so well.
I'm a novice here.
In best focus center images of blue and red are pretty dang blurry. Peripheral still ok.
After 20 or 30 minutes of viewing the whole image starts to shift up and down. Off the screen even. Big shifts.
After a few minutes of image shifts then the diagonal lines start to hit. I may have to send pics to explain what this looks like. Sometimes they are just thin green lines that shift up and down over the image. Other times red, green, and blue lines sort of bow down from the top of the image.
My tentative diagnosis would be raster burn and overheating. Does raster burn cause blurry images? I thought maybe it would just cause dim images......
Any suggestions? Thanks

Tube "fungus" is the most likely reason for the blurry images. The rest seem to be heat related. Make sure all the fans are clean and all the dust is blown out from inside the machine.

When it shifts, do a '55' 'code'. That turns off the convergence/registration. I'll bet as Papalek says, something in the convergence is overheating. If it goes to normal when the registration is off, then it's most likely the convergence output board. I've got lots of those or can repair yours.
Cheers!
Curt

Thanks for the help guys. I'll give the 55 code a shot. As far as tube "fungus".....I'm guessing there isn't much you can do about that...?

There are a couple of different ways to clean the "Fungus" out of tubes. The easiest way is to drain the glycol and fill with CLR let sit for a minute and then flush with distilled water. Let dry and refill with either fresh glycol or filter the old glycol. I have not had any problems with reusing the old stuff my self.

Just thought I'd let you know, the CLR fungus treatment worked great! The Red tube is like new again. Blue has some raster burn but that's back to normal for this projector.
So thank you for your help. I had a good time tearing into the ol projector. I admit, it took WAY longer than the 15 minutes it takes you guys to do the treatment. I took several things apart that it turns out I didn't need too. But for my first time, I'm just glad all three tubes still work. Next time I'll use a syringe larger than 1cc!!
I'll see if I can somehow cool the projector better. I'll try 55 code again once I get it mounted and focused again to see if that keeps the image from moving around.
Thanks again,
Taylor
