Hello all.
I have a Runco DTV-991 for over a year now and it runs well except for once in a while, the unit makes a clicking sound with the video flickers quickly. It's as if the video turns on and off very quickly or like when the unit switches to a different video source. I think it's all 3 tubes. It's very random and sometimes, it clicks like 2 or 3 times is a row very quickly. After the click, the unit runs with no problem.
Should I worry about this? Any ideas on what it is? I'm afraid it'll click and never come back.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this Runco unit is the same as the NEC XG 75.

This sounds like it may be your source. Check your cables and connections or anything in the signal chain. If you loose sync it will click. Doug

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely consider that as one of the possible cause.
Any other Runco/NEC XG users out there with the same experience?

Well if nothing else, right now with it only doing it intermittently it would be hard to troubleshoot. Keep running it, if it dies completely we'll assist in repairing it.

Check if all sources are doing the same thing. It is possible running HD that you have the set top box set to native where it will change resolutions depending what its being broadcast in. ie: commercials 480P, 1080I or some at 720P.
Avoid going inside the projector until everything else is checked. Other things to check, is it on a power circuit with something else that pulls a load. When it does do this quickly look for a error code in the read out window before it clears itself, 00 is normal. Doug

I guess I'm happy that no one has pointed out a big red flag. That's good news to me.
Yes, I'll just keep using it and enjoy the quality of a CRT projection system.
Doug,
The issue occurs at different input. I have a FIOS TV box attached to it set a 1080i, my HTPC set at 1920 X 1080 at 30 hz, and then a DVD player at 480p. The problem occurs randomly at all input source.
It's on a dedicated circuit too so I don't think that's it. I'll have to check out if any error codes shows up; I never thought of this. Thanks for the input.

If you don't see a obvious reason like a cable or processor / switcher problem then it could be thermal or a oscillator board being iffy. You haven't mentioned a scrambled menu problem so I was thinking 'source-sync'. What are you using for a processor / switcher and have you tried to verify with a local crt monitor? Doug
You might try running a source direct into the projector bypassing the signal chain.
