This part sounds like it belongs in this forum in the off topic tree hugging oil haters post.

Perhaps instead of Blu-ray they should call Sony's format "Death Ray" for what it does to the environment, and since it depends so much on Middle Eastern oil to create, house and ship the discs around the planet? Yep, terrorism and pollution, those are certainly two things that I want to be funding with my entertainment purchases...not!
One has to wonder...have any of the people buying these Death Ray discs actually stopped to think of the consequences of their actions? Or perhaps they're simply selfish people that just don't give a damn about the true costs to the planet and to human life of their Death Ray discs? It's hard to get into the heads of people like this who want entertainment at all costs and who will stop at nothing to get it.

f*ck all this digital format sh*t. I'm switching to 35mm projection. Analog does rock, right? I just need to come up with a few million dollars to build a theater, employ people to run it, including scantly-clothed, well endowed female ushers, and a library of films. I got a start though -- I bought a single 35mm film frame of Star Wars off eBay. I just need to get my hands on the other 130,000 frames.

Now why did you lump me into the likes of the AR collective? I supported both formats concurrently. In fact, if I go out and buy an HD DVD movie today then I'll have supported HD DVD longer than its creator AND the DVD Forum. <evil snicker>

I agree. I think the Department of Homeland Security should fund HD DVD now that Toshiba is folding on it. Chances are reviving HD DVD would be a better investment than what they're spending money on now. We could drop HDTVs, HD DVD players, and pornographic HD DVDs to Afghanistan and Iraq to encourage the terrorists to do something else with their hands besides make bombs and plan terrorist attacks.

As if there are lots of people now lining up to buy $300 Blu-ray players. Sony will get its studio bribes returned on the backs of Blu-ray player and media prices.

Not to mention licensing. THAT'S where they'll make the huge buks.
