So, which 1% of the consumers are to blame?

The less than 1% that helped BD win.

Because you should have a f*cking brain. My post was dissing exactly this approach--"hey I'm just a dumb f*ck that can't use my brain to research and find out for myself, marketers have to lie to me and I'll buy into the best lie!" Puh-lease. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I just dont get it. Bluray is a very good product and it will get better. I bought mine and i'm happy with it.

How in the world am i some brain dead idiot because i bought a product that i like as opposed to a product YOU like???

How is HD-DVD sooo much better? DRM? If you think that HD was never gonna have one, i think you're naive.

Yeah, we're brain dead because we are enjoying what we bought. Go figure.

Good to know that you're taking defeat so graciously, Dave.

I think there's an interesting point here. The format war DOES appear to have been settled by the 1% -ish of consumers that are the first adoptors. And (in spite of Paramount) settled more quickly than most people expected, as well. Yet for nearly two years, it was a popular view that enthusiasts like us, who frequented forums like these, were such a small part of the market that our choices and allegiances were not significant. Early adopters are generally the people who are not put off by higher prices, rushed-to-market technical solutions and inevitably higher risks. And they also tend to be better informed, often through these sorts of places.

So the vast majority of consumers were happy to wait until the format war was concluded, and let the early adopters take the risks (and never-ending firmware updates). So the voting was not done by the vast, uninformed, unwashed masses, but by people like us who took a great (often too great) interest in the formats, and often focussing more on the technical differences in the formats than other people would. And they -er- us, we are the people that made the decision, collectively. And I'm proud of us, of course.

All the very best, Nick
