I hear Queen singing "another one bites the dust" in my head:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Ffeature.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26plgroup%3D1%26docId%3D1000195491%26plpage%3D1&tag=curtpalmecrtp-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325

And then Bay gloats over the matter of HD DVD becoming Blu-ray:

http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/14/michael-bay-singlehandedly-wins-the-hd-format-war/

And now speculation is that Toshiba's USA product division is thinking of making a Blu-ray player. Why not, they are already making the cell processor for Sony. Thumbs Up Mr. Green

I don't see HD DVD support dropping like dust so picking up these movies is a smart choice for any savvy enthusiast.

The Bay stuff is meaningless, and the Toshiba and BR stuff is a rumor, no?

Michael Bay is such a douche bag.

I'm going to buy a couple more HD DVD's for sure, now.

But first check out DeepDiscount - several of the same HD-DVDs are going for $12.20 at DD.

I am about to pull the trigger on 10 from deepdiscount for about 1/3 price of equivalent BR.

should I be questioning this choice?

I can't decide when the HD DVD stuff will hit rock bottom and then start to go back up due to low supply.

Will they ever sell for less than $12? Will they just disappear in a few months if Toshiba wraps it up next week?

I can't see a $4 bin at walmart with these in there...

Yeah, I gotta wonder how low the prices will go. Do I buy at $12.20 or do I wait? I'd like to see $5 a title! Come on studios, throw us poor HD DVD peeps a bone! It will be interesting for Paramount and Universal to see how well their HD DVD titles sell when they are being sold for such prices. Maybe they'll see some weird sales trend and come to the conclusion that HDM should be priced at $10 a title to maximize their profits! It would be funny if a firesale of titles results in the players increasing in value. I'd love to see the sales figures with these prices!

I'm no longer in denial. HD DVD is going down. No car crash in slow motion. This is pretty fast motion. Warner Brothers, you sons of bitches!

BRING ON THE FIRESALE!!!

It's not going to go for less than DVDs. A lot of the sh*t/old titles that were released on HD DVD (and even a lot of BD's) are ALREADY selling for less than $10 on regular DVD. In my opinion, that's one of the reasons that HDM hasn't had more of a sales impact. Everyone stands around scratching their nuts wondering why HDM is still such a small percentage of the market, and the it's obvious the selection has a hell of a lot to do with it. I know there are well over 500 titles on HD and BD combined, but for argument's sake, let's say are 300 unique titles between the two. If there was a gigantic fire sale, and every HDM title that's ever been released was on sale for $10, I'd probably only find 100 or 150 that I really wanted. The other 200-300 are old catalog chaff. The only reason they're on HDM at all is because the studio had HD masters they could use as source because it's already been on HBO HD or Showtime or whatever.

Just I want is a f*cking HD copy of Norbit. Oh, and Daddy Day Camp, Devil Wears Prada, and Employee of the Month - those I've been laying awake at night anticipating their release. WTF?

Where are the GOOD F'ing movies? Where are the CLASSICS? So far, they've only released a handful!

Universal and Warner could have kicked ass with HD, but they didn't give a sh*t which format succeeded. What difference would it make. In fact, with any lock, they could pocked a few hundred million selling movies in one HD format, only to sell them again later when the first died. sh*t, it was probably their plan.

I can definitely see reasons why HD-DVD discs could sell for less than DVD in bargain bins: *EVERYONE* can play DVDs. Very few people can play HD-DVDs. The enthusiasts will gobble up the HD-DVDs likely, but if there's any leftover stock a year after the last HD-DVD player is sold, you can bet they'll be dirt cheap.
