I just checked status on their online portal. It say's under the colum Replacement shipped "NONE" then on the same line in the colum "Status" it says "Shipped"

Guess it will have to be another phone call to figure out WTF is going on.

Didn't get time to call, but my secretarty called me and told me I had a package from LG today. It's a different drive with a later date of manufacture. Dec 07. My previous was Nov 07. I'm going to install it shortly. I'll let you know...

RMA'd the beast after a false start and some RMA number confusion. I ended up hand delivering it to the front desk at LG and getting them to sign for it in my deilvery book Very Happy

I had the replacement 2 day's latter. So far so good, except for the flakey USB connection. Sometime's it just won't play the movie and requires a restart. I did however, just watch The Chronicles of Riddick, had one false start but then played just fine the 2nd time around.

I wonder if XP is doing something with the USB port's sometimes that causes this glitch?

Is there some kind of poling going on in the USB port's? I "think" I have all the power saver/ sleep stuff turned off on that box. What would cause a USB port to disapear?

I had to RMA my drive last week and it went without issue. I followed the same procedure you mentioned and got a new drive a couple days later. Unfortunately the new drive seems to be having the same problem as the drive I shipped back to them as defective.

On a few Blu-ray movies I have, when I insert the disk it never gets detected. Sometimes it will eventually spit the disk out but usually it goes in to a cycle where it tries to spin up the disk, makes a clicking noise, goes quiet then tries again. I does this for a couple minutes then stops. I have an Independence Day Blu-ray disk that it can never detect. Last night I bought an external SATA to USB2 enclosure to see if it was some sort of controller issue with my mobo but I get the same response in the external enclosure.

Time to call back LG to see WTF is going on.

Chris.

That's exactly what mine was doing and from the tech support's resonse of "uhh huuh" on the phone I suspect it's a known issue.

Have you been able to get it fully working?

No I haven't but, it doesn't do the clickty click thing anymore. I have to start the movie. Wait for it to crash. Power down the PC with a hard switch and reboot it. THEN it will usually play ok.

It's kinda like my Chrysler. I have to start that one 3 times for the first run of the day. THe rest of the day it's fine. LOL

I love HTPC's Very Happy Thumbs Up

How did you get it to stop doing the "clickty click" thing.

Independance Day is the only disk I have not been able to get to work.

I'm going to go buy one of the LG GGW-H20L drives this weekend and see if it does the same thing. If not I'm going to try to get LG to do a swap from the GGC-H20L to the GGW-H20L.

I hate my HTPC but I like to be able to rip all my content to the HD.

Ok, so I tried both the GGW-H20L and another GGC-H20L with the same results. Still can't recognize that some disks are in the drive.

I called LG was able to actually speak with someone who had some technical knowledge and they said that they will pass the info on to the design engineers and that a fix would likely be included in the next firmware release. I got the impression that it is a known issue and that they are already working on it. I was told that if a new firmware was not released in the next three weeks I should call back so the issue can be further escilated.

I'll report back in three weeks. Smile

I've been wanting a GGW burner for months, but the BD media is still too expensive.

I don't really need it, I just want to make some demo clip blu-rays.

Here's another HTPC blu-ray player option other than the GGC:

A simple question:

Does "RMA" mean "Return Merchantise (or Material) Authorization" ?

I am simply placing this question, because I don't know if this service exists in my country.

Thanks and sorry if it seems a silly question

(I also have some questions regarding my LG GGW-H20L, but I am going to open a new thread for them)

This thread is referenced to my HTPC thread so I thought I'd update it too.

The new drive is still working 18 months latter ( I know I just jinxed myself ) Laughing

Anyone else have any long term issues with these drives?
