I have not really been pricing BluRay players yet but came across this one at Refurbdepot.com
Seems like a pretty good price plus you can buy a 3 year extended warranty for another $40.00
Does anyone know what BluRay players are going for currently?
Thanks
Dan

Be careful of the samsung's. I believe they have had some compatibility issues.

They no longer support their older model BDP1200 or at least that is what the lawsuit against them is saying.

PS3 or nothing if you are at all nervous about compatibility and upgradeability.

I own this unit. My wife bought it for me for Xmas. She paid $279.99 at Costco. I had one issue playing a movie, but the firmware update fixed it. No other problems that this ignoramous is aware of. Smile

I think its crazy the prices on the entry level units went back up after Xmas. And with HD DVD waning by the second, I doubt the players will get cheaper before next Xmas.

I know, I was this close to snaggin a 1400 at the xmas prices but thought for sure they would continue to drop.

So how are these higher prices going to make all of these "fence sitters" hop in the HDM race?

Well, you can pay more knowing the format will live on, or you can buy cheap and pray to Alla that the weakening and waning format doesn't 100% peter out.

There are plenty of movies available (over 400) for me to justify multiple HD players in the house at their price.

How many DVD players do you have in your house?

I have 10 (including computers and HTPCS).

If I were to start replacing all of these with new HD players here are the cost breakdowns...

HD DVD < $1200 including picking up used players from suckers dropping their old ones (all at least 3rd gen)

BR > $4000 if I want all the same features as I currently have with HD DVD.

Choice is easy for me.

Friends don't let friends buy blu ray until after profile 2.0 is fully supported by the hardware. Maybe not even then.

But why? Most people won't care about the extra features that profile 2.0 (let alone 1.1) provides. I know I certainly don't. Profile 1.1 just came out (profile 2.0, the next version, is still in the works). I have a profile 1.1 enabled player (a PS3) and at least one disc (Sunshine) that is profile 1.1 compliant and frankly, WHO CARES. It's a bunch of useless special features stuff.

Unless someone proves me wrong, all older profile 1.0 players will continue to play all future Blu-ray discs with the same high quality audio and video.

If you're really gung-ho into special features like picture-in-picture and downloading content from the internet through your Blu-ray player then by all means, wait for profile 2.0 players. But otherwise this waiting game is illogical.

I pretty much felt the same way until I watched the blue/green screen pipd in the movie 300. I was very impressed. Why buy something that does less and costs more? The logic in that defies reason.
