I have a Sony VPH-D50Q projector that I am trying to conect to a Sony Blu-ray player through the component connections. I was under the impression that this projector should be capable of 720p or 1080i resolution. When I run the Blu-ray I can only get it to play on the 480i setting. On all other settings will not produce a picture. Can anyone help. Sad Sad

Welcome,

What model Blu-ray player, it's possible it only outputs 480i over component and you need to use HDMI for any HD resolutions.

You have to configure the input in the service menu to run HD component on the D50, right?

Input A is set to component. The Blu-ray is a Sony BDP-S300

I am running 1080i on mine from both an upscaling DVD player and satellite receiver component out and it works fine. Has to be something either in the setting of your player or projector.

Have you checked the player with another display to make sure it is outputting the correct signal.

I have checked all the settings on the D50 and blu-ray. all seems good. I have tried the blu-ray on a sony HDTV with HMDI connection and all works perfectly. I am trying to set up using a blu-ray dvd but still no picture unless the player is set to 480i

Do you have a HD satellite receiver? That would allow you to test another 1080i source. Take a look at Kal's post a couple above regarding what resolutions that you can get out of the BluRay component source.

I have no other HD source at this time. I am considering to get the moome IBF-HD card as Kal has suggested but am hesitant that it might have simular problems since I can't determine the root cause for the current problem.

The D50 can certainly do 1080i and 720p from the component input. But you need to set the input on the Set Settings menu to be HDTV-YPBPR rather than component.

I tried as Kris said and changed the set setting to HDTV-YPBPR while the Blu-ray is set for 1080i and I am now getting a picture. However there are 3 images red, green.blue that are slightly out of alignment. It appeares I need to make some kind of adjustment to align the three images.

Since this is a frequency the projector has not seen yet you will need to setup a new memory block. You will have to go through the setup procedure and then push the memory button to save the setting. After this, the projector will automatically use this setting when it detects a 480p input. Below is the link to the manual if you do not already have one.
