I can't seem to do anything with this disc. Won't play with powerdvd, "unsupported media" error. Won't rip to disc with anydvd, craps out with a "can not read from media" about half way through. My arcsoft trial is expired so I don't know what that does.
I know this is BD+, but I thought it was dealt with a while back now. It is a netflix rental, but (unusually) looks brand new, without so much as a smudge on it.
Anyone have a thought? I am trying to decide whether to keep monkeying with it or send it back.

Its a double-layer BD disk. Heck, the first time I tried to play it in my Samsung BD-P1400 I had a problem. Its a huge encoding. This movie is shorter in running time than the first, but unlike the first on BD its a double-layer with (I think) 50% higher encoding bitrate. I would try the disk in a standalone player and see what happens.

I don't have a standalone player.
I give up. I have tried everything I can possibly think of here, and completely crapped out.
The only thing that might have done the job, according to anecdotal reports, is DVDfab, and that won't recognize the LG drive as a source. This also seems to be a known issue.
I'm disgusted with the whole thing.

Have you tried your disk in a standalone player--like one in the store? It may be the disk itself is bad. Eliminate that possibility, first.

Possible, but I don't have any problem browsing the disk with windows explorer.
It's a netflix rental, and I'm tired of monkeying with it. Going to drop it in the mail today and worry about it down the road. It is probably a movie I am going to want to purchase, at some point.

I am now having the exact same issues with the movie "From Hell", which is another BD+ Fox release.
It seems safe to say at this point that's the problem, although I have yet to find the solution.

Exactly what is BD+ ? Is this the Sony protection system? I try not to bother with this stuff and hope the standalones work.

The problem here is definitely DRM. Anydvd disabled, the disk starts to load and then pdvd throws an HDCP error at me. Anydvd enabled, and powerdvd doesn't recognize the disk.

Wow, I guess that "extra layer of DRM" (BD+) that "just isn't an issue" really is an issue. Great, I can't wait to bring a movie home and have it not work because of f*cking DRM.
I'd take the f*cking disc back to the store and tell them to shove it up their ass.

I posted on the slysoft forum for help. The workaround seems to be to go back to 3319a with pdvd. The AnyDVD crew is expected to resolve this, but that's still several weeks out last I heard.
Otherwise, yeah, what you said ecrabb.

Yes, I am outputting digital, hence the problem. If I was using analog then HDCP would not be an issue and I could just disable AnyDVD, or if anyDVD could strip BD+ in addition to the rest then I'd be okay as well. As it is, I am caught between two copy-protection schemes here, making it impossible for me to play my legally-purchased movies.
