Hi
I need new tubes in my Sony 1001 which has Sony 07MS tubes and i was wandering if I could use SD187 Tubes instead.
If yes, what is the difference between them? are they Brighter, Darker ect. Would I have to modify something to make them fit.
Thanks

Yes, and they are a little darker, and no.

The 07MS tube is better.

What if the wear on the 07MS were 7/10 compared to 10/10 SD187?
Thanks

Tough call. It's going to depend on the total 'on' time of the tube, whether in standby or not. Drop each set in and check the focus. Seems to me that the later 07MS tubes display better color for longer, so you can get away with more visible wear on the 07 tubes than the SD 187. Not sure why, if they used better phosphor on the 07MS tubes, but I've seen mint phosphor with no focusing ability, and slightly worn phosphor tubes that focus perfectly.

The 187 are only meant to have 2 hrs use and the 07's have a toasty square on them.
You said just "Drop each set in and check the focus" are changing tubes pretty easy to do, Do you just take them out and put new ones in without touching any of the adjusters on the tubes?
Thanks

Would it be possible to stick those brighter tubes into my 1020? or would it be pointless?
