I'm totaly new to the Marquee and having a few problems . I cannot for the life of me get the Green astig right no matter what I do , It always ends up with triangular flare . I have tried every pole magnet combination and focus coil position , and still no go , red and blue are fine . The second problem is I have a faint horizontal line from left to right in the centre and the pic appears to be darker above the line , it is subtle but very annoying .
Note this is a 8500 converted with 8500 magnetics and mint 9" MEC tubes HD-10F lenses . Also do you guys do the Zone color balance adjustment or is this for curved screen only , I do have a colorimeter for this .
Loving the PQ so far despite these thing , heaps brighter than the 1292 , can't say its sharper just yet .
thanks

I had similar headaches with the astig setup.
My best advice is, get Graham's setup DVD. (advertised on this site)
It's worth every cent of the $50.
There's no way to explain it, but when you see a pro do it, it helps a lot.

You MIGHT have bad CPC magnets. Try swapping the CPC magnet pack between the green and one other tube and see if the problem follows the CPC magnets or stays with the tube.
Occasionally, the CRT itself could have out of spec beam forming components. A burr on the electron beam exit hole could well be responsible.

I already have the setup DVD , I just can't seem to pull it in , Red and blue also have the flare but was easily corrected with the rings .

The frist ring (cloests to the yokes) is flare, by either spinning it around the tube neck, or twirling the knob between your fingers you should be able to center the dot inside the Halo. The second 2 rings are stig . they only control inner and outer stig dot shape. Get them as round as you can, then go into the electronic stig menu and dial them in the rest of the way using the remote control.

thanks | color correction is actually contrast modualtion. Usually on a Marquee you bump up the 4 corners 10% on all tubes for uniform screen brightness. For a 16:9 squeezed raster I will usually turn down the upper/lower zones by 5% as well. Leave all the rest at default 50.

Hi Ricky, as previously recommended, swap over magnetics from the other tubes. That tube was brand new and definitely sharp as a tack when I had it. I have a spare 6 pole magnet if you want it, not too sure if its working 100% though as I haven't tried it but couldn't hurt.
As far as the subtle line, what you are seeing there is what I believe to be the worst thing on the marquee's.. banding! It is a royal pain but there are ways to avoid it, just need to put in the time, check Tim's site in the tech tips section for the info.

The Banding problem may very well be due to bow adjust as the line is exactly in the centre of the raster .
As for the astig the front ring seems to do very little when turned , it only moves the blob around and does not interact with the triangular flare and serves to hold the dot still when focusing up and down , in total I have 4 rings the first pair are locked together and can only be turned and the rear pair has the cog that turn the rings counterwise to each other. Most projectors I have had before have 6 CPC rings .

I have had one projector with a bad astig drive board. To do astig, pull the astig wiring from the astig output board. That disonnects the astig circuits completely from the tube, and set the contrast to 100 and dial in the dots to be round. AS mentioned, you might have a bad astig magnet assembly; rare but possible.

SOunds like you only have a 2 pole magnet assembly. REplace it with a 4 or a 6, and you should be in good hands.

Hey Gino , don't suppose you have a set of 3 , 2,4,6 pole magnets up there hey !!

2-4-6 pole is ideal though, I have never failed to dial in perfect stig across the board with those in conjunction with dynamic elec. stig.

I got a complete 2/4/6 set from VDC a little over a year ago for $69.00. I understand they've gone up a bit but still well under $100 from the last I heard.
If you have a memory set up that is banding free, copy it over the top of the problem memory and then just tweek that one for the input to that location. Stay away from bow adjustments like the plague tho. Even a little bit can introduce banding. (as you've found out)
You can alternately 'fix' bowing by going into the Convergence Menu > Service> (pwd 0901) and adjust green Random with the big hatch pattern put up. Then save it, back out and converge red and blue to match, and again remember to save it. Rinse and repeat until you're 'satisfied'.

The banding issue was indeed the bow adjust , it was set at 45 , I had to adjust it up to 53 for it to go away , Of course now I have to start geometry from scratch now

It will take you a whopping 10 minutes to straighten out the grid using Green (service) Convergence and another 20 to re-converge R + B. Hardly a full days work.
BTW, if this is too much work, then just swap your stuff over into an Ultra chassis, it's immune to banding.

I wish this was the case!! It's hard enough doing a perfect blend and then to have to mess around with banding on 2 Utlra's also

Unfortunately not, I've got one spare though, but as I said, not sure if its 100% as I've never used it. I've been waiting on Curt to give me a price on 2 sets of new CPC magnets. I've been asking for many many weeks now and still no word from him... you listening Curt???!... but if he ever delivers I'll send you a set.

that's strange, after many years of practice I can get a normal marque free of banding. I would have thought the ultra's to be easier. Are you sure they are eally Ultra's with the exra Geometry controls and special FGM (focus Geometry modules)?
