Hi all
I have a PG9 that has a bit of green and red flare on peak whites. The tubes have no burn in and only 3500
hours on them.I have changed all the caps on the gain board and on the video out board. Is there anything
else i should check? The focus is great and the only way to get rid of the flare is to drop the contrast down
to a low level. Is this common with these units?
Thanks

Hi
Yes i have but i am having trouble getting the outside round. The best i could get it was by using the cross hatch
and getting the vertical line to be as sharp as the horzontal. This is about the best i could get the focus.
When you defocus do you turn the focus control on the D board to the left or to the right.
If i turn it one way thay are close to a circle the other way there not.

How about trying an edge focus with a dot pattern?

Flare can be caused by low emission tubes, or driving them too high, or a combination of both. I'd suggest you find a peak white scene and set contrast to JUST below the flare point. It's also possible that G2 is a little low, but that's a whole can of worms that you DON'T want to open.

Check your lenses, see which one has the best focus and least amount of flare and put it on the green, put the 2nd best one on the red.
You might need to check the position of your focus coil on the tube neck, move that forward or backwards till you get best focus.
I put a second set of astig magnets on my tube to get a little better focus, I will probably try the six pole magnets next.
Did you set your astig while running your PJ at the contrast you use for viewing?
Deron.

Hi
Mark AW was right the astig was out slightly.I used curts tip on turning the focus pot to check if there is any movement
on the cross hair.It moved about 1/2 cm on all three tubes.
3 hours later no movement good focus and no flare. These are tuff little suckers to get right.
Thanks for all the help

Well even though this thread was 13 months ago, and i personally dont have this 9PG in my possession, a good mate of mine does, and the G2 had been touched on it. No idea who touched it, but its been touched. It certainly wasnt a little low either, 2 of them were high.
Wouldve made our job alot easier last week if it wasnt touched!!

Well, some people look inside the pj and start playing. It is unfortunate in the PGs case, because a lot of damage can be done. It sounds like this pj needs a thorough going over.

Yes Spanky id say youre right, these people you speak of probably had something far less technical before hand where everything was adjusted with trimpots, and with no further ado (and skipping setup instructions in the process) they lift the bonnet on the PG and start twisting every trimpot they see.
Doesnt matter though, i think we managed to get it looking pretty damn good considering it was a very temporary setup and we never touched any kelvin or colour menus. I did turn 2 of those G2 pots down though, one was almost all the way up, the other was about 2/3rds up or abit more.
