In sweden where i live, it is impossible go get screens with more than 1.1 gain.
The only one available is Stewart Theatertek 130, which is insanely expensive.

I have a 1.4gain screen now (old) but want a bigger one, so i am looking for links to US company's selling
higher gain screen more than 1.3 and less than 1.8gain.

Preferrably only the screen material.

Do you need fabric screen or will a solid but flxable laminate do? If so check out the Wilsonart page here: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=7967.html

It's 1.24 gain and many people including the Sony G90 guys are using this for a screen.

It's available in:
4 x 8 foot ( 122cm x 244cm )
5 x 10 foot (152cm x 304cm )
5 x 12 foot (152cm x 365cm) sizes.
It rolls for shipping in a rectangular box.

Is wilsonart some kind of plastic-laminat ? I have no idea what it is.

Is it a material MADE for screens? Or is it for something else?

I'll see if i can find it in sweden.. Atleast i have to try it.

It's plastic laminate, made for countertops. There is one particular color (Designer White with matte finish) that is a near-perfect surface for a screen.

If you can get that specific manufacturer and color, it makes a great screen. There may be similar products available in Sweden but you'd have no way of knowing if that product matches the color & reflectivity you want for a screen. See if anybody there carries the Wilsonart brand.

My standing recommendation is the Wilson art Designer White. One guy I was talking with was VERY skeptical about it thinking he really needed to buy a commercial screen. After he got it and the PJ up, he commented to me, "you really steered me right on the Wilson art."

The Wilsonart is about a 1.2 gain. For a commercial screen that is similar gain, I like the DaLite CinemaVision which is a little softer than most screens, but has a nice "glow" to it (almost looks rear projected). For a 1.5 gain, I'd go with the Hurley Superglo.

Money no object, The StudioTek 130 is simply the best screen out there, but I don't think its 3% performance increase over the Wilsonart is worth 12 times the price.

Don't forget about the Hurley screens. Mine is a 1.5 gain and I can't find anything wrong with it including the price for it, and they will custom size it for what you need at no extra charge.

Didn't you see my post above? Smile Hurley Superglo was what I recommended for a 1.5 gain screen.

I didn't see anything wrong with it per se other than it had a bit more color shift that StudioTek 130 and it costs 6 times as much as the Wilsonart. The wilsonart will give performance equal to the Hurley with the exception of about .26 less gain. So, the only time I would say Hurley trumps the Wilsonart is if you don't mind a smaller viewing cone to get the extra 1 or 2 foot lamberts.

Great. This is the exact model number you need: D354 60 117 Designer White.

There are two thickneses. The 117 is the thicker of the two.

You can glue it to whatever you want. As for the actualy substrate it looks like a thin plywood.

Yes I was asking about the substrate, because depending on what it is it has a good chance of warping in short order unless you build a solid frame for it. When I first got into this hobby I used something similar but with a MDF substrate and it warped over time and I only used it for a few months.

MDF warped?!? Wow. You must have a super humid environment. I've never seen a warped piece of MDF. The whole point of it is to be super stable.

My frame is built out of aluminum, but I built it with a warp in it so I wouldn't feel left out. Neutral

No, actually our climate is fairly dry, but it doesn't take much to warp MDF/particle board if it isn't fixed/attached to something. Mind you when I say warped I'm not talking a huge hockey stick type curve. It doens't take much warpage to ruin what a screen should be -flat.

MDF and particle board/chipboard aren't the same thing... are you sure you didn't have the latter, or maybe OSB? It really would take quite a lot to warp a piece of 3/4" or even 1/2" MDF, even a little bit, at least in my experience. (Which I readily admit is not vast.)

Yes I know the difference between the 3 types of board. Chip board is not the same as particle board either. Well I have a 4x8' sheet of 1/2" mid grade MDF with a wilsonart type finish on it(my first screen) and its warped and that happended not long after I got it. Go to Home depot and have a look at their mid grade mdf stuff and it's likely you'll see it warped sitting their upright. I agree that the high grade mdf 3/4" board may not warp that easy.

Just to make sure my memory wasn't playing tricks on me I just went out and had a look at it and it's definately warped enough where I wouldn't use it for a screen.

Okay. I wasn't trying to cast aspersions, I was just surprised. Well, apart from using 3/4, I have seen designs (here, in fact) where the MDF is mounted on a frame of 2x4. That was in order to join multiple sections, but it would definitely discourage warping. You could always seal it, too.

There are several guys doing this, including Clarence and they have not had any problems with warping, though I think most mount to a 2x4 frame or something like that.
