Sorry I hadn't gotten back with you earlier. I *believe* that you're going to need to set an address on the unit - We usually just set them to "1" in single-unit systems.

I got it working. Just needed to set the Grafik to address 1.
Oddly, the GRX-AV will create a link with the GE whether it is assigned and address or not (or assigned '-').
Anyway, thanks. Now onto to something more complex with this thing.

ok ive purchased a few things of ebay and just ordered some more.this is either going to be a great learning experience or a semi expensive collection of stuff in my garage.
im not new to automation or programming but new to crestron.
i would like to start off with a theater controller first.then worry about further whole house automation.i laready have insteon,x10 and a basic linux system.
currently im using xantech IR and a harmony remote for my theater which is pretty lame compared to those here.the crestron equipment i have and will receive are:
stx1550c
cnmsx-pro
cnmsx-av
cresnet iims
cnmk
and a 1/2way receiver ot sure of model.
iv downloaded 3 programs from a uk site but still need SIMPL and DEAl(not going to ask here),but feel confident that i will have them soon.
i need to control a sony 61",scientific atalnta 8300hdc,nFusion solaris FTA , sony 7.1ch receiver and my HTPC.
eventually i wish to control 3 additional receivers(or get a multi channel amp to replace) which drive my ceiling and rock speakers in the house.i have 3 sony 200disc changers but mainly use my mp3 collection.
currently all my equipment components reside in a closet off the living room(controlled in 3 rooms by the xantech)
i can purchase a second rf gateway for the porch/bar/deck/horseshoe pit area so i can take the touchpanel out there or use a second one.
im trying to get the equipment figured out first and worry about the programming later.with this info is there anything ive missed?suggestions?

Your name is not Pete so you're in the clear
So what if IR didn't work for you. Switch gears and do it with serial control. Once it's done, you'll never know the difference. In fact, it's much more stable and dependable. I control the 4600HD "don't go there" via serial and it works perfectly. I am driving RS-232 50 feet over cat5e with no problems.

Controlling my bg808 via rs232. Works great and the device was already in the database. I only use IR as a last resort.

What cable did you run for the IR? It had to be at least 2 wire. Basic RS-232 is 3 wire. I never run 2 wire for anything. Even basic heat only t-stat wire which is 2. I always run at least one more then required. You never know when some numbskull will drive a nail, screw or staple in the wire.

Hi,
Apolgies for jacking hte thread but I dident see a intro page,
I am a new Crestron programmer Lvl 2 "intermediate". I am avaliable to help with Crestron systems and also could use some help as my tech support has been cuttoff
I started my own AV install company but don't have the 15k to make the initial purchase order for Crestron.
Guess I'll start by asking a question I couldnet figure out.
Is the ST-CP compatable with a pro2 via intersystem communication? My plan was use the 232 ports with a adapter from rg11 to db9.
But before I do any of that I wanted to make sure the 2 would play nice so I can use my iphone interface and my Girlfreind and guests can use the St1550.

Yes, you can pass data (analog/digital/serial) signals between a Pro2 and the ST-CP via ISC. A few things to keep in mind:
1. Make sure you do not loop your analog values
2. Keep serial data usage to a minimum (the ports on the ST-CP have a smaller buffer than the Pro2)
3. No S+ on the ST-CP
let me know if you need any other questions answered.

|
|

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. I am an ET that has been doing DIY automation since 1988. I started with an Enerlogic 1400e then migrated to an Intellihome 5000 then a Hai Omni Pro II then onto an ADI Ocelot for my home and a Leopard for my office. My home is totally automated from lighting, water heating, individual room RCS thermostat control, video & voice security and finally A/V control. The only problem area that I have not totally conquered is the A/V control EASE OF USE by my wife and other family and friends that seem to be SPACE CADETS when it comes to technology. That is why I decided to look for a remote control to interface with my system. I purchased an unused,in the original box, ST-1700C Crestron from an individual on line for 1500.00. The problem I am having is that I assumed it would have the operational software included in the box! To my unbelievable surprise, IT DID NOT. The individual I purchased the unit from has not responded to my e-mails so I have no recourse through him. I was hoping that someone on this forum could help me with this dilemma. I have read the posts by quite a few of the members and hope that someone could help me . I am willing to compensate for anyones time and effort. Thanks.

Like I posted in another forum (I think you posted this in 3 different sections), the 1700C will not work unless you also have a processor.
The s/w is not available unless you are a dealer (or work with one) or a CAIP.

Thank you JKV for your reply. I should have included the fact that I also purchased the MC2W along with the ST-1700C. I was hoping that someone could help me as I am way down in the Florida Keys and don't have any access to any individual that can help me locally. As I stated, I would gladly compensate anyone for any assistance in regards the programming. Thanks

|
|
I don't think jmayes has been on here for some time...
I am having a hard time converting CCF files to .ir files. Has anyone had success? Maybe a step-by-step for me? It sems like the steps listed below are for installing the attached .ir file in lieu of a CFF file from remote central.
| jmayes wrote: | Ok, Great!
Now for those pesky IR code sets that is not in the database. There are several ways of doing it.
1. Locate the *.ir file from someone that has already dealt with the issue
2. Use Philips Pronto Codes (CCF), this requires DEAL software- more on that later
3. Use a Philips Pronto and learn the code, then step 2 (Pronto 1000's are cheap on Ebay)
4. Obtain an Crestron CNXLIR and learn the code directly to to DEAL (Expensive, even on Ebay)
Note: The CNXLIR doesn't interface to a system, it is only for learning and testing IR and making *.ir files.
2nd Note, There are converters out there to convert AMX *.IRL files to *.ir and numerous converters to convert to and from Pronto codes so web hunting will usually find what you need.
A good source for more Crestron ir files is http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Crestron/files/IR%20Drivers/ You may need to join the yahoo group to gain download privileges.
OF course www.remotecentral.com is a great source too for pronto codes.
I was able to obtain the HD-XA1 codes from the web, I have attached the file.
Step 1. Download and uzip the attached file and place it in "c:\crestron\simpl\userdb", if the "userdb" folder is not there then create it, after unzipped the file should end in ".ir" (Dot IR)
Step 2. In Simpl, goto the very top line above the toolbars and select "Options" then "Rebuild User and Project Database"
Step 3. Now in the Device Library Tree, Close all the Crestron Database folders (to clean up the screen), then just below "Crestron DB" is "User DB"
Step 4. Locate "User DB" folder, expand it, expand "Manufacturer" and now you will see only "Toshiba", expand it and you should see "HD-XA1" Drag it to the IR Slot.
Note: As you add files to the userdb folder a new entry in the userdb will appear but remember to rebuild the database!
Now that's it for the IR drivers, on to setting up the ST-1500 Touch screen in the next post.
To be continued..........
