Oh by the way it has already been programed with a reasonable template. Should I start from scratch and if so how do you erase it ? Wink

Ok, all the better. Making the new touch screen files are really another process completely and we should do it in another thread, not right away, I want to sink our teeth into the system programming before starting on the UI (user interface) project.

And besides, I love to reverse engineer things.

Notes;
Programs can not be downloaded from either the system controller box's or the touch screens, it was made one-way on purpose so programmers could hold their clients hostage. Anyone paying a programmer should stipulate in the contract before proceeding that they will get a copy of the programs, they won't like it but if they want the business they will agree.

Now what can be done is that many of the older systems and touch screens have plug in memory chips which can be removed and read in standard chip programmers, that won't give you the source file but will give you a re-downloadable copy of what is in the screen or controller, good for backups or clones.

I will get a cable drawing for the ST-CP in my next post

To be continued...

Jmayes

I'm curious how long this reverse engineering approach will take given you don't know what order the pages, flip pages and sub-pages are in and what order the join numbers are and what type of joins. OK Tom, are you paying attention. You are right. You've had it easy up to now. The best part is about to begin. Then once you get your IR devices to sing solo, you have to rip it apart, include some,.... hmmm...., A LOT of logic to make it sing in harmony. Watch out for the following.

1. "this source has no destination"
2. "this signal has no source"
3. " You have 49 improporly jammed signals" Laughing
4. "you have 62 previously defined signals" Rolling Eyes

My .02 worth is to work save and test, work save and test. You don't want to try and do the whole thing in one shot, (at least the one the size of mine) and attempt to debug it at the end. You could have so many errors and warnings that you'll not know where to start. If Crestron had a error message for me when I started it would read " You friggin dope!!! throw it away and DO_IT_AGAIN." Laughing

Those are all Simpl Program related errors, we are not going to reverse the Simpl program, just the Touchscreen "Joins" or buttons. I have done this several times now with screens I liked the layout to begin with. The good thing is the ST-1500 is a very simple screen, one-way and no analogs- all we have to find are the join numbers and map them to existing buttons. I will be covering this in about 2 posts. So no worries here and we will save a heck of a lot of start-up time since we can stay away from Pro-E and screen programming which will be a completely different topic.

As far as doing the whole system at once, I just wanted to get most of the config done first, we will be going in smaller increments once we get into the meat of the Simpl Programming.

Will start covering the program Transfer part in just a bit.

Thankx all

Don't worry about that, I think you got an extra one in there which took the total over 999, it will just stop at 999 and give that error.

Scroll up and down now and and double check if you have all the signals from button1 to button999

Sounds like your almost there now!

You already have 999 lines, that is why you keep getting the error, you don't have to insert any more.

Ok, lets delete all the signal names, then we will reset the names again.

Step 1, Right click on the symbol anywhere, Select "Select All Signals"- the menu will go away.

Step 2. hit the "Delete" key on your keyboard. All the names should turn blank (but still be blue).

Now go back to the post and start at Step 9 (scroll back to the top......)

Good luck,
JM

Should I have RFID_press32 on press line 32 as I do ? The menu did not go away but all lines turned blue. What symbol should I click on and select all signals ? Just want to make sure I don't erase the wrong thing...

Ok, I figured out whats going on- when you double click on a blank line it will "Auto name" it. Click once on a line to select it (turn it blue) then hit "delete" to clear it. Do this for each line you see something on.

Next tell me how many lines total you have, now it sounds like you only have the orginal 32.

ok, then click once on any field, then right click and add just 1 field to get back to 999, then return to step 9

good luck,

Ok I clicked on View/Edit on the drop down menu and put in Button number one. I then get the View/enter Symbol comment screen and it says Button one. I then hit ok and the pop up goes away but the press 1 name is not populated ? If I hit change signal I can input it manually and it's now there...

Now sure why you used view/edit, we should be here. (don't worry about what you did it won't hurt anyting)

-------------------------------------
Step 9. Scroll back to the top Signal and select Press #1, Just left click once (it will highlight in blue)

Now we will create our first Signal Name, they can be anything we want but for clearness I will choose Button1

Step 10. Type "Button1" and Enter

Now the first Signal should have the Name "Button1" and the blank signal below it will be highlighted in blue.

Proceed to step 11.

I don't understand why, I can't make that happen with any key sequence. Are you sure you have "button" and the number "1" (one) on the first line not L, it must be a number to cause the increment to happen.
