I was trying to set up my new Marquee 8500 projector with a "quick and dirty" focus and convergence to prepare for an open house. The plan was to then re-focus and re-converge carefully later to get the best picture possible. At the start of the process I noticed that the picture was shifting back and forth constantly. The whole image would shift an inch to the right, then it would shift an inch to the left, then it would shift up, then down, etc. The picture wasn't constantly in motion, rather it would pause for a second or two and then shift again. I didn't get any weird focus problems or color shifting during the shift, so I'm guessing the problem is before the tubes. Anybody have any thoughts on what may be going on?

Hello

Does the 8500 have an Image Shifter card installed?

That will probably be a question for Curt to answer. I got the projector from him a few days ago configured in what I am assuming is his default configuration. If my setup matters, I've got a DVD player (not sure the brand) connected via component into a Denon 2308CI receiver connected via HDMI to a HDFury (with EDID fix to allow it to work with Denons) connected via RGBHV to the projector. The image also shifts if I am looking at internal test patters and on-screen menus.

I believe you can actually see the image shifter card, it's normally next to your VIM (rgbhv connectors on rear)

If I can figure out what I am looking for, I'll check it out. Is the purpose of the image shifter to constantly shift the image (sort of like I described) to prevent burn-in? Seems like that wouldn't be necessary for a movie projector. What would be the best way to address this?

I thought that was the Colour Correction Module. next to the Acon board.

I understand now why the question was asked about the image shifter card. There is one installed and I had my video plugged into it. I moved the cables over to input 1 which wasn't on the card and everything is great.

Hello

There are movable jumpers on the card, you can turn the shifter function off if needed.

Good call Tim, there is indeed an orbiting card installed in that set. Funny, I have a pile of those, so I put them in a lot of sets that I sell in place of the blank panel, and never thought that it could be the issue..Smile

Yes, the version called Image Shifter; it has some small knobs above the BNCs.

No, I meant where the second input module slots in, well IIRC that's where mine was until I tossed it.
