I can see where you're coming from from, and believe me I am no troll, nor am I trying to tell anyone what to do or how to live. All I would say is that with my interpretation of the law, If you rip a rented movie you are breaking the law n o matter you intentions. Tivo is only applicable to free broadcast television programs. If I am mistaken in my interpretation, or if it seems like I am trying to offend anyone I apologize. I was merely stating my opinion on that.

I rent and rip, and I have no qualms about what I do. I use my rips to "TiVo" my rentals. Instead of saying "Gee, I'd like to watch a movie, guess I have to go out to the rental place and pick something...nahh, not worth the bother," I just fire up one of my rips. I rent them, rip them, and keep them on hand until I have a chance to watch them. I generally have about 4-5 movies ready to go. When I've watched a movie, I delete it. I see nothing wrong with this. If you rent, rip, and KEEP your ripped copies, that's different.

I didn't know you were a ripper Gary. I do exactly what you do, excect I usually have quite a few more ripped DVDs I haven't seen. To be honest, I have no problem keeping a movie after I've watched it, but I really don't have any desire to watch almost all of them more than once, so it's a moot point.

I'm sure you're right, but I don't think that the industry is very worried about guys like Gary and I. My local Blockbuster knows what I do with the DVDs (I've talked to them about it several times), and online Blockbuster has to know what I'm doing because of my renting habits (get 3 in the mail, mail them all back the next day). I'm sure they'd prefer I didn't do it, but not enough to ever say anything about it.

I think the counterfeiters are their main concern.
