So now we need someone to design a method to validate sigs; which means weeding out the pregs, chads, hangers, and dimples to get to the real winner. Rolling Eyes Unless of course the validation team is in Florida...then all bets are off. Laughing

I don't think the world is ready for tethered media content. I'm not. I like the XStream theory but I also like haviing the ability to take a CD case with some of my favorite flix to movie night at relatives houses....which are held monthly at a different home each month. How's that going to work with an 8-12lb box that requires internet connectivity to validate or activate previously downloaded content?

Then there's the SUV/mini van entertainment systems. How will that work if you can't take a pile of movies along to shut up, I mean, OCCUPY the kiddies on a long trip?

Newer technology is tripping up the battle over old 'new' technology. What a mess. Thumbs Down

Granted, you could argue that Warner made the decision, but if people cared they wouldn't buy Warner releases. Since they are, they clearly don't care that much about HDDVD.

I'd rather have HDDVD win just because I tend to think that company-specific formats rather than industry consensus formats are a bad idea, but at some point you gotta let the market do its markety thing. Or something. I have a cold; pay no attention to me.

Check out the Porn HD-DVD BluRay video in Tom's link. I find it interesting that Sony is trying to lock out the adult industry.

Greg,
You have a point about people wanting the media, but if it is cheaper and easier and better quality to receive it at home then I think a lot of people will look into this distribution method. IPTV may make a huge impact in this regard. With IPTV one will be able to watch programming when he wants. Also, Xstream is a higher quality signal than anything today. As for the mobile example, who cares? Does anyone really care about HD on a 6" screen in the back of a vehicle?

People already care about *content* on a 6" screen in the back of a vehicle, thus I think it's safe to say that rationality plays no part in this... :p

This just makes me laugh. If anyone thinks this "petition" is going to make one iota of difference .. LOL

Seriously, the 'war' is over already. HD-DVD lost, stop complaining and let it rest in peace with Beta

HD-DVD might never die totally but it will never be a dominant format - that's the way it was even before the Warner announcement. With Paramount about to drop HD-DVD like a hot testicle ..

I've got 34 HD-DVDs and over 100 BRs - I've never cared which side won but having one format is better for us all - regardless of what format it is. The faster HD-DVD shrivels up and dies, the faster studios will start releasing titles like Lord of the Rings etc on BR.

Wow, with this and "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" this forum is turning into a goldmine for off-color similes. Anyone got any more? The only good ones I remember are "colder than a witch's t*t" and "colder than the inside of a grayhound's nostril" (one of my personal favorites).

Off-topic thread, here we come! Very Happy

God help me I actually went and made a thread for it. And in the final analysis, I'm not sure whether this thread or that one will be more worthwhile in a discussion of imaging! Wink

28702 is not exactly what I would call HD DVD player-owner representation. Clearly the web-consumer isn't so thrilled.

Someone pleaes poke holes in that from the BluRay side, because it reflects what I think a lot of people feel.

Kal?

It's mostly all true. It's old and the numbers are different now, but his criticisms are valid.

Exactly.

Warner makes the decision that'll make them more money so it's the same thing.

This whole voting process is just plain stupid. For one thing, you can vote as many times as you like! They don't even have email validation! Vote 26 times in 10 seconds if you like. In both petitions fans of either side are posting to respond to some of the other comments ... it's just going back and forth.

If HD-DVD fans really want Warner to consider bringing back HD-DVD, the fans need to simply go out and buy lots of HD-DVD movies. Simple as that. People just saying that they're interested meaningless to Warner.

Kal

Clearly the web-consumer has no clue this survey is out there. Would you, if you didn't hang out here?

Nope, but I am also example of someone that now knows and still doesn't care. Mr. Green

Wow. And what's the rough ratio between players sold and those signing the petition? Yeah, baby, yeah! Maybe the database of names and addresses from all of those free movie transactions can be used to contact HD DVD owners and get them to sign it, too. Any proceeds from selling the mined consumer data can go to further support HD DVD.
