Hi all,
I just recently acquired a Sony 1270q to replace my old 1031q. I'm a little new to the digital setup as I have cut my teeth on all the analog convergence. The problem I'm having is I am trying to maximize the rasters and then set up for 16:9 on the pj with an 80" X 45" wide screen. I'm using a Momitsu set on 1080i and set for 16:9 video source. When ever I squeeze down the raster vertically (RGB size in service man mode), it only goes to a specific point, then says "overflow", leaving the vertical image too stretched for the screen. Horizontally, the rasters are maxed out with a 1/4 inch leeway on each side to the end of the tube face. Any help would be wonderful as I have searched high and low and this form has been very helpful to my previous setup

You need to first squeeze down with the normal SIZE G(since it adjust all three colors) control using an external pattern from an AVIA disk or similar, then use RGB size to finish if necessary. Touch the convergence up when you have achieved 16:9.

Exactly... To expand on that a little more... When you use the SIZE G control, you're actually squeezing the entire raster. When you use the RGB SIZE control, you're controlling only the size of the active image area - not the entire raster.

Well, hmmm, I used the SIZE G control at the bottom of the keypad and resized the external wide screen test pattern (1.78:1) from Video Essentials until it said "overflow". Blanking is full open BTW. It still was a bit too large on the top and bottom of the screen (sides okay). The circles in all the corners on the convergence test pattern were egg shaped. I pushed RGB Size at the top of the remote and when I went to squeeze the image down it too said "overflow" as if it were the same adjustment as Size G.

Ecrabb would know the answer better than I. I have always run 4:3, so I am only going by other's advice.

Got it! Thank you both for the feedback. Internal test patterns first, then hook up source and touch up convergence. I was using external patterns for the initial geometry and convergence and it was screwing me up. I must say, I like to do the convergence by the screen with the remote on the 1270 rather than behind the old 1031q. Thanks again.

Steve,
Welcome to the forum, BTW!
Glad my PM helped and you got it working. Now, do it all about 5-10 more times and you'll start getting pretty good at it.
Isn't the digital chassis nice? I can't imagine doing geometry and convergence the old way, anymore. Standing up at the screen with the remote is great for tweaking zones.
