So I've swapped out convergence trays, H shift board, H board, V board and SMPS and I'm still getting nothing out of my convergence controls. The only thing that happens is a random shift in the image between around 47-51 that doesn't exactly really change anything so much as cause a jolt/shift. Anyone have any experience with such an issue?

This actually seems to have helped some, however, I'm now experiencing another issue as well. This came before swapping the controller though. Only on the green, the horizontal is totally out of whack. It's just not focused at all. I can get great, focused verticals but not so much on the horizontal to say the least. This is just weird. I feel like I have cursed 1208's...I'm so close to wanting to go digital right now that it's not even funny...

Post some pix of the test grid. That will tell me volumes. Take one with the convergence board pulled out as well. I want to see where the grids are at without any convergence.

I'm working on it...I've got to get something somewhat usable up on this thing first. Right now everything is a disaster. Another oddity possibly. All hardware points to this being a 1208s/e yet the information in the service setting lists it as a 1208. Is this odd?

Have you tried deleting all memory blocks and starting from scratch ?

Yes, hence the square one state I'm at now...

I'm still confused as to why my projector doesn't show "1208s" or "1208s/e" in the menu. It's a little disconcerting as in the manual it suggest that it should show "1208s" at least. Mine just shows "1208."

Did the controller you swapped out come from a 1208 or a 1208s ?
Projector info is stored in the controller.

Both controllers were from 1208s/e's and both say "1208" in the menu. Maybe this is standard or maybe the firmware is jacked up.

Remove the aluminum cover from the the controller. There is usually a sticker on the firmware eprom with a version # and the projector type. What does yours say ?
Never owned a 1208s but if it works use it. It might be normal. I have a spare 1208s/2 controller here I bought as a back up for my 1209s. The eprom has a sticker that says CTRL GR1208s/2 with the firmware version V7.14
