I just ran through it again, set the DTV input to component (not RGB), connected the dvd player and turned the tv on, it immediatley kept turning off. I'd turn it on, the green led would turn on for about 3-5 seconds, screen stays dark and then the set clicks and then turns itself off???

Interesting, on my set the RGBHV and HD-Component input are the same inputs (RCA Jacks). You just use 3 RCA cables instead of the 5 for RGBHV then switch the input type in the menu.

The DVD is a toshiba SD-3780, according to the manual the component out has the following specs:
Y = 1.0V (p-p), 75 Ohms, negative sync
(Pb/Cb)/(Pr/Cr) 0.7 V (p-p), 75 Ohms.
Cable should be good, works fine when used into the non DTV component input into the TV.

Mike, that is exactly the way my Mitsubishi WS-65809 is configured. Five RCA connectors to support component or RGBHV. Selection must be made with the menu.

I have the same TV and have used the DTV input for my PC (MyHD tuner) and HD-DVD player. It would even automatically switch between component and RGB if i didn't change it in the setup menu. I would only have the problem of the TV turning off if i would run a resolution to high or every now and then if i would have componet selected in the menu and then run a RGB signal. You should have no problems running it the way you are now.
