I have the buttkickers and they are quite impressive.

I have never owned any of the cheaper bass shakers but I have read of similar type experiences.

The shakers definitely make up for my lacking sub (PE Dayton 10"!)

You can get buttkicker kits of Amazon for pretty cheap.

I've got the Aura Pros and they're nice. But I've got them mounted into the frame of my seating. For the best effect you want to mount them into a riser. Mounted in the frame of the chair, it just kinda buzzes your butt -- but mounted into the riser, it feels like the room is shaking. Smile

I've got both the Aura Pros and regular bass shakers (not available anymore) and love them.

IMHO, butkicker in the riser is the only way to really go if you're going to do this. Everything else just kind of buzzes in your butt.

I don't have bass shakers though. I thought about them and researched them but in the end decided that they were kind of 'gimmicky' for me so I skipped the idea...

Bass shakers- IN!
Wife- OUT!

Mr. Green

I've got those Aura pros in my car, they work fine. THe load on a typical amp is a bit strange, I'd run two in series per channel. A typical home amp with output ICs will run really hot and smoke with one per channel. Up the impedance a bit and you'll be fine.

I looked into getting them once and the feedback I got was to go with the buttkickers if you want it to work right. The lesser brands apparently don't get the job done in the HT room.

I concur... I've got them mounted to the frames of the recliners in my front row, and under the riser of my 2nd row. Under the riser seems a better effect.

I've sat in seats with the more expensive ButtKickers ($200-$300 option?) for LFE demos, but I'm not sure the effect was any different than the $30 Aura Pros that I use. Mainly because the shaking only needs to be subtle, not overdone, so you don't need massive seismic power.

If you've got massive subs like Cliff or Arli, their chairs rumble even without shakers. But if your HT doesn't contain bass as well as you'd like, I think you'll be pleasantly pleased with the effect at low volumes, particularly late at night if you can't crank up the subs.

Just in case someone didn't read my post correctly, I never said I've tried any of these units, I said I only enquired about them over at AVS and that was the overall comment I got.

Long before I was looking for these units I was over at a guys place who is the only local dealer for Buttkickers and he only had them set under the couch legs, one on each end and it was very effective. I really didn't ask too many questions about them at the time because I wasn't really interested in them.

I've been using Aura interactor's stripped out for years. My old chair had one directly behind the lower back. I remember watching a Metalica DVD one night right after I installed them. I had my sub turned off and when I stood up I had no bass at all. I was amazed.

There was a thrad over on AVS about modifing them by cutting down the fiberglass suspension. IIRC they dropped them down from a low of 30 Hz to 22Hz.

I have 2 couches with recliners setting on my basement floor. Where would I attach Bass Shakers?

I'd do it in the back part myself. However you could try under the bottom and see which one give you a better bass feel.

The first incarnation of my theater had the Shakers mounted to the frame of my couch. Loved them but hated the couch. Had two of the 50w and 4 25 w in various places. Then I built an infinite baffle subwoofer and added theater seating. The IB is way more intense than the shakers. But during really good explosions and such, it also makes the living room rattle in my neighbors house 2 doors down, a good hundred feet away. And you can feel the concussion in your chest as it works its beautiful bass magic....but I digress. Since I added the second row of seats I am going to reinstall the shakers. I like em. My 2cents.

I don't see any way to mount these directly under the seat. It is basically just wires across the cushions. There is a recliner at each end and a fold-down table in the middle. The frame for the middle section has big wood pieces that are attached to the frame of the couch. I'll post some pics tonight when I get home. Could I just mount 2 shakers directly onto that wood part of the frame? Does it have to be under the seat or directly behind the seat.

I'm looking at buying this . . .

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220193017048&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012

I have 2 couches and that would give me 2 shakers per couch.

Yes, connected to any part of the wooden frame is fine.

Here are the Aura Pro shakers that I used:
