I have always noticed that mood dramatically effects how much I enjoy music and how good it sounds. Here's some observations.

1) Worn out, not in the mood for music and it does not sound as good.

2) Tired, music is good for putting me to sleep, it sounds good.

3) Waking up to music playing, sounds really good for some reason.

4) In a real good mood, music makes me want to dance.

5) To much loud noise or music, makes music not sound as good, do not want to listen.

I would guess that there would be all kinds of emotions associated with how we go about either liking or disliking music.

Has anyone noticed how mood effects their movie watching experience? Too me it's not as dramatic as to how my mood affects my listening to music enjoyment.

Mood would effect the genre of movie I choose to watch, or perhaps enjoy. If I was wide awake, I prefer something to suit, not something depressing. If things on the girlfriend front are sour, I really hate romantic comedies. If I was in a silly mood eg. drunk, I might not enjoy stupid movies so much Wink

Music effects my mood (a lot!) rather than the other way around... Upbeat to get work done, downbeat to back me away from potential manic episodes, Contemporary Celtic Folk (Lorena McKennett, Enya, et al) for when I've already gone off the deep edge (I call this my "don't assault co-workers playlist") and, of course, The Offspring for driving in Boston traffic!

And 50's - 60's Oldies for fixing cars. (More rock than pop, when horns ruled rather than electric guitar)
This may be a holdover from Quality Garage Time with the dad when I was a kid.

Stoned I would enjoy music and Home Theater like never before.

Been sober for a number of years now though. I guess it's for the best.

It's pretty obvious, but I just though of one huge thing that affects the image quality. Sound quality, or lack of sound and the mood of the sound. When I have a concert DVD running without the sound on, the image comes across as totally dead and lifeless. A good sound track will add to the believability of the image. Take "Master And Commander", the movie starts off in the belly of the ship, the creaking sounds make you feel like you are in that environment, then the sound track switches to the battle, changing the whole mood of the image.

I guess this is why you can have a small TV with a big sound system and all of a sudden it transforms that image on the TV into rock and roll concert.
