Well if that is the way the industry is going to go then sure I'll buy a BR player but not until they get their standards straight. It's pretty bad when the only decent BR player is a gaming console and thats out of how many manufactures.
I'm not saying the PS3 is a bad unit or anything, it's obvious from reading posts in AVS that it is the unit to buy for BR at the moment.
I'm not waiting for the prices to drop to sub $100 before I buy, I don't care if the price is $500 or $1000 as long as the product is finished and doesn't have all the bugs which are killing the present BR players.
You'd think that with all the BR manufacturers there'd be at least one who could come out with a player that actually works 100% and covers all the hype that has been made from the BR group technology.

Walter, are you using the word "bug" because the current crop of BD players do not all do BD profile 1.1 or 2.0? If yes, the lack of profile 1.1 or 2.0 is not a "bug".
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Player_profiles
The players bought 6 months ago all "work". It's just that a year from now some of the special features that require a secondary audio/video decoder (like to do picture-in-picture) or internet connectivity will not work because these older players do not do profile 1.1 or 2.0. Frankly, I couldn't care less about those sorts of features. I'm surprised you do as well since I thought you were more into this for overall picture/sound quality.
Some of the older Blu-ray players cannot send some of the new lossless audio formats over HDMI as bitstream or LPCM. But that's also true for older HD-DVD players.

Hi Kal,
No that wasn't what I was getting at. It seems like alot of previous players from various manufacturers wouldn't play this disc or that disc and then they would do a rev to make it play correctly. That to me sounds pretty lame coming from a new technology which is now in the drivers seat to take over the HD optical media race. Sure it was the beginnings of the format but it just shows that alot of these BR manufacturers are just coming out with incomplete players and unloading them on the unsuspecting public. Is that just growing pains for this new technology, I think not.
Has any BR manufacturer come out with a product yet that doesn't have problems(except the PS3). Seems to me that all the posts I read at AVS in the BR forum wreek of player problems for every BR player, more so than any HD DVD player, well maybe the Pana B10 or whatever is is called. My XA2 has never had a problem playing any disc, HD or otherwise, even the copied DVDs I made for the little one.
You're right, I don't care about any of that extra crap, I care about 2 things video/audio, but I would like them to get this right before I put out any cash only to find that the new BR model 3 months down the road is better from the same manufacturer, hmmm, sounds like the digital PJ market. Yes I know that is way any CE product progresses, with the exception of the XA2, that came out as the top of the line unit and is still at the top HD DVD or BR. Now if I could get a BR unit that performs as good as the XA2 that would be great.
I put the disc in the player go directly to play , watch the movie, movie ends I hit the eject button. I could care less about 99% for the other stuff on the disc(s).

Wouldn't it be nice if they had "movie only" versions of the disks, with less-compressed video and a lower price because it doesn't have 40 GB of interviews with the security guards and sandwich-cart ladies? Just give me the frickin' movie ferchrissakes!!

Blu-Ray Disc... Superbit Edition.
That way they can sell more copies of the same title AGAIN about 5 years from now.

SC | If you compare the BD releases of Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer then you would conclude the second was the Superbit edition.
