|
|
Hi Forum,
yesterday my NEC XG110LC shut down while playing a movie. The displayed failure code is “Fd”.
I disconnected the power and waited for half an hour and restarted the projector, but it immediately shut down again and displayed “Fd”.
The troubleshooting chart from Curt`s homepage says in this case: “When protector circuit for the HV circuit”.
Well, as far as I understand it, the pj whats to tell me that something is wrong with the HV circuit.
Has anybody a clue where I should start to check and what the problem might be?
Best regards
Torsten

Check your tube necks to see if one has shattered or snapped. that's the first step.

Thank you for your quick response, Curt.
I checked the tube necks and luckily all is fine there, looks like it has to be.
No smell of short circuit and no smoke residue to been seen inside the pj.
What else can I do ?
Best regards

Check all the connections on the HV board - and check the other ends of the connections too.
I was getting a Fd error and it turned out to be a stressed ribbon cable from the Deflection board to the HV board.

The wirering looks good.
When i switch the PJ on, the LED on the H deflection board goes on for a short time, the the LED goes off.
A few seconds later the PJ powers down and returns the Fs code.

Thorsten,
I had the same problem. It was not until I actually carefully checked the tubes that I noticed the green tube was cracked. It was especially obvious when I was able to get my hand on the tube and could feel it move around.

If not, your HV board is bad. YOU MUST use the same HV board as it is calibrated to the set, throwing another one in might work, but has the danger of sending too much HV to the tubes. I can repair those, I've done quite a few.

Hi folks,
the NEC is running again, thank you all for your kind help.
A friend recommended an ex Sony technician who lives just 20 miles away from my home. He repaired the HV Board. A few resistors, two FET transistors and a transformer were changed.
Due to the failure on the HV Board, a safty resitor was blown in the power supply as well.
The failure was probably caused by the age of the electronic parts.
I will reinstall the PJ next week when I get some people from the local gym to help
Regards
Torsten
