Hi,
I've been meaning to ask about this for a while.
A month ago when I had a problem with my 1252, I was reseating the cpu boards and I noticed that one of the microchips on the board had a greencap capacitor soldered across two points on it. From memory the greencap look to be soldered on almost diagonally opposite corners of the chip. It certainly didn't look to be part of the factory original machine.
Does anyone know what it might be doing there? Was there ever a mod for these 12xx series machines? (Has my machine been a part of some nefarious experiment )
I've had the machine for about six months. Not sure about it's prior history except it was supposedly retubed a few years ago.
'cheers
Sim.

I thought the same time the first time I saw this on a 1272 I had. Out of curiosity I took apart my other 1272 to see if it had the same thing, and it did. My 1251 and 1270 at the time did not. From memory, the 1271 I had a couple years back and the 1251 that just left did not. The other couple machines I've had through here I can't say because I never looked at the CPU boards in the time I had them.
This is definitely Sony's doing... all part of their upgrades for the 2nd generation machines. All three of the 2nd generation 1272's and the 2nd gen 1252 I have right now also have this capacitor.
If your machine is 1st generation(NO groundwire running from the PA board between blue and green to a fan screw next to the speaker), let me know and I'll have learned something.
