. . . because I've been bad now!!

I have this Love/Hate relationship with Amazon. I hate it when I go there looking for something that I want and their prices aren't any better than anyone else's and their "free shipping" stinks "Please note that items with Free Shipping may take 3-5 days longer than . . .". But when I'm not really looking for anything, I LOVE some of the deals I come across.

So yesterday I'm reading in the HD DVD forum that Amazon's got some great prices on Toshiba HD DVD players, but that they are out of stock. I go to see for myself and WHOA, the HD-A35 is $312 plus free next day shipping!! I've always thought that I would hold out until I could get the HD-XA2 because of the HQV Reon upscaling chip. But on the other hand most of the reviews I've read from people who have tried both slightly favored the HD-A35. Then I see that they are IN STOCK, so I pull the trigger - it should be here tomorrow.

THEN I notice that the Onkyo SR-605 AV Receiver is on sale for $386 including free 3-5 day shipping. A friend of mine just bought one and really loves it. It is HDMI and will process DD+ HD and DTS M/A (I think that's the right spelling) plus it has 6.1 component audio inputs for True HD. Load times are supposed to be significantly faster than my HD-A1 and the picture just a hair sharper. So it ought to be here the day or so after XMas.

I may be sleeping in the dog-house for a while, but DAMN, the picture and sound ought to be GREAT!!!

Very Happy Shocked Neutral

Congrats GE. Remember, jewerly solves all problems! Wink Of course doesn't 1 DVD player look just like the other? "Honey, we've always had a Toshiba HD-DVD player." If you want to go for the glazed eyeball look just say "I just upgraded the firmware by downloading the iso, burning it to a CD using InfrRecorder at 4x speed. Now it can output 1080p24, supports True HD, etc." So, grab the mail before she does and pay the credit card bill. Mr. Green

Thumbs Down
You should have stopped after the first purchase. As a rule of thumb, you should never own more than 2 receivers in one lifetime. The second one serving only to confirm that receivers truly do suck. Wink
Gary I am REALLY looking forward to your review of the A-35. I want to know whether 1080P is better than 720P on our trusty 8500's. I'm hoping it's not so that I can keep $312. in my wallet. Very Happy

I was thinking of getting another HD DVD player like the A3 but their price wasn't any better than Costco's pricing.

BTW, since I am returning the combo drive (PC) the wife bought a Samsung BD-P1400 for me at lunch today.
