Title says it all, how soon do you expect to see the drive for $100-$200 less than it is now.

I'm hoping it starts to fall in price pretty quick, now I have a HTPC ready for the drive but I'm having trouble spending almost as much on the drive as I did on the rest of the PC.

Opinions?

I'm a little lost on this poll. The initial release-day price was $500 for HD DVD and $1000 for Blu-ray. Considering they can both be had for 1/3 that release day costs hasn't that already proven the prices will come down?

Seriously, are $170-180 HD DVD and $280 Blu-ray players not in your budget?

I am going to assume you are talking about the LG combo drive? ...no time soon. it is a nice piece of kit, cheaper than the alternative ( Very Happy ) and has a long line of people waiting to get one.Even if they ramp up production the odds of seeing it under 200$ are nil until a consumer combo unit starts appearing in homes.

Hi,

I guess it is a little confusing, thats what I get for posting late at night. Rolling Eyes

Yes I am talking about the LG Combo drive, The supply right now can't keep up with the demand so it does look like the price will remain steady. My hope is that another company will come out with a cheaper combo drive and introduce a little more competition.

Wishful Thinking, Thumbs Up

I'd buy another too. If I could get the first one working. I drove by that store yesterday. Guess there are some crazy Boxing Week deals to be had.

I think it will have to be under US$200 before I consider it again. This is based on the condition that the included software doesn't work and LG will not support that condition. BTW, my local Fry's now has them in stock, but for US$300. And I have not seen this product anywhere else in retail.
