Just talked to them, I don't really understand why they won't cut me a killer deal on laminate. I am doing a couple big tile jobs in the near future and they almost gave me some $$$$ tile.... I know I can get the stuff for 1.75 a sq ft. That is what she just told me. They have 4 of the 5x12 size in stock and could have as many as I wanted by the end of the week.
The company just changed names and sized down its staff a little bit and my usual rep moved on to another company. I think my business may follow her. I will try and track her down today.
But I will give them one last chance on this...

Oh and I can't seem to do any better than the 1.75 U.S. on the laminate.. They will sell me tile that 50% of retail.. and I have bought laminate before and never had a problem...
I have a couple more calls to make.. I never thought to call my cabinet guy... maybe he buys enough of the stuff...

Wow I feel like RONA tried a bait and switch on me.
Back on Jan 28 I got a quote from Rona. It was as follows:
1 Piece 5' x 12 foot Wilsonart D354-60-117
2 Pieces 30"x12 foot Wilsonart D 354-60-117
_____________________________________
All for $328 plus tax.
Total:$370.64
Ok now I didn't need the 2nd piece of 30" x 12'
so I figured my total today when I went to order would be:
$246 plus tax
Total: $277.98
Not bad for a whole wall screen 12 x 7.5 then I can mask to whatever I need.
However today she quoted me $497.70 plus tax
$562.40!! for the two pieces I need
OK so she did the old " Lemme see what I can do..."
She came back at $400 plus tax.
$452 with tax. That's a $174 increase. DUH I don't think so....

I assume you have looked for other sources. If not I have attached a link to Wilsonarts dealer locater. I paid around $85 in Dallas for a sheet of 5' x 10' (or 12', I can't remember)

Ummm, once you get much over $100-$150 you might as well paint a screen.

Why do you say that?
Besides that would be a giant PITA here. I have wood panneling on the walls and the screen need's to be mounted in such a way that it doesn't get damaged.

It depends on how you are going to mount it. A lot of people are laminating it to MDF. If the MDF is the same size as the laminate, then just paint the laminate. When I first suggested this material, it was for people who don't want to paint, need an indestructible surface and a material larger than the readily available 4x8. Since that time, you can get a turbine sprayer from HD for around $60. A better model from Harbor Freight is around $80. A 4x8 piece of MDF is around $25. Behr UPW and Kilz will probably set you back another $20. This gives you a final cost of about $125 for a screen with a turbine sprayer left over for other paint spraying projects around the house. The Wilsonart is good, but it is not worth $300 to $400.

the question is, if you want to have a screen wider than 8', what sheet good do you buy that you can paint?

i'm currently building a theater and plan to put a 9500lc up. i happen to live in canada in a city that borders michigan. i keep a shipping address there and do most of my online shoping for....everything in the states. if i decided to get a 5x10 sheet of wilsonart shipped to me, i could probably get a few additional sheets shipped. if someone from TO was heading down southwestern ontario, i'm about 2.5hrs away (sarnia) just a thought.

$300-$400 for wilsonart?? I payed ~$105 incl shipping for 4x8 laminate. I can't think that 5x8 or 5x9 cost that much more?

But then I'd be into painting with a sprayer around TONS of clasic (read: old ) electronics I have scattered about. Not my idea of fun. I have to build what ever I do in place.
I was thinking of getting a piece of wilsonart in a 4 x 5 size and painting it with retroreflective paint but it wasn't too highly recommended.

I just got off the phone with Wilsonart Canada ( Mississauga Ontario ). The nice lady tell's me their product is available from many outlet's such as:
Home Hardware
Lowe's
Castle Building Centre
Beaver Lumber
She also sugested that I could try an independant cabinent maker. Just so happen's I know one of those. He always marks things up too much though.
Then I inquired about purchasing direct. She said they don't sell direct, however, if I have a company with a GST number they can sell to me at their cash and carry for $3.08 sq foot.
A little quick figuring:
3.08 x 90 Sq ft (5'x12' & 2.5'x12')
=277.20 + tax

I'll make a fewe more call's to Castle and Home Hardware but I'm betting this is the way I go. I'll likely just goto the cash n' carry.

Well the paint you were looking at is very expensive and the spray bombs are very hard to get an even distribution of microbead on the screen it really shows up when unevenly applied . I also said I would send you some stuff that would work . Are you going to be gluing this to some mdf ? Hopefully you are. There two thicknesses of this, get the better stuff, especially if you are thinking of trying to just gluing it to a frame . How are you going to be hanging this?
PS
I just talked to my supplier while I was chicken pecking this and I can get you a 5' by 12'sheet for $128 Pus tax.

Thanks Bruce, I'll let you know. only thing that will kill me is the shipping.
I plan to mount this on a 1/4 " plywood with 2x3 framing and mont the bottom edge with a cleat then tilt the top out to get my correct projection angle.
