Just like your car hobby, I'm engrossed in a complete cosmetic renovation on 2 properties... just for fun... not. Was hoping to be in the new place for Xmas, but since there will be no kitchen until Jan 4th, I get another week to work on it.
I'll get to do some of the setup tomorrow. I also have to go to the dump, buy insulation, vapour barrier, drywall (and then install it) and hopefully get my HDFury... I'm expecting 2 packages and I got notice that one is here today.

Right now I'm in Edmonton for my companies xmas party. I started reading the user manual (all 135 technical pages of it) and I think I'm going to start working on setting it up from scratch when I get home Sunday night. I'll have 5 hours on Sunday and 3 on Monday to work on it as my wife has to stay up here an extra day for work. I should be able to get quite far in 8 hours eh?
I have one big question. The manual has floor or ceiling mount for front projection, but also has a setup where the projector is directly in the center for rear projection. Can you use that set up for front projection as well? That's kind of how I have it now in it's temporary home and it seems to work ok.
How's your set up going? Cold enough to get you inside to work on it?

Oh hell yes. We're wimps in Toronto as compared to the rest of Canada when it comes to snow and cold. We have about 10cm of snow on the ground and another 20 cm forcast. So, Toronto will be paralized 'till Tuesday.
I have mine setup on a cart. ( Geee I sould take a picture ) the same way you would use it in rear projection but doing front. I'll post a pic in a few minutes.

Not much space to manouver right now so no wide shot but you'll get the idea.
And yes my place is a mess. I've started the whole apartment clean up/home theater build.

Nice! Ok, mines not that high, but it will be. Right now it's in the basement with 7 foot ceilings and sitting on an old vanity. I like it that way, I just thought it was a no-no to do so. In the new place with 12 foot ceilings I don't want it hanging that far down and floor mount wont work well wither, so I think centering should be ok.

Yes works well for me ( even though the PJ doesn't ) I can sit in the chair with my arms over my head relaxing and I don't interfere with the projection.

I knew you would ask me that. Uhh chest high and I'm 6'1 in high heel socks .
I'll have to measure it.
Here's a better picture, with my Sony 1252 sitting on it.

So around 4 feet to the top of the cart? I assume you are shooting at the dead center of the screen?
I take it that since nobody else has chimed in, our shooting it rear projection style in a front projection set up is acceptable?

Sure it's acceptable. It actualy maximizes the raster and squares it up on the tube face for more brightness.
By the way your estimate was close. I just measured at 49 1/2 inches high to the top shelf. I'll be trimming 2" off and replacing the wheels when I get time. Just to sqare up the legs and I'm upgrading from 3" casters to 5" casters. All the wheels lock BTW so I can get it where I need it and lock it off.
Bought the wheels at Princess Auto for cheap ( around $35.00 for the set of 4) the 3" came from Rona at around $78.00. So it pays to wait for the sales

I'll never buy cheap castors again. I'll only buy the nice ones with the soft (but tough) grey rubber. Every other kind has damaged my hardwood floors that I just put in.
I really like the idea of shooting at the middle. So far it has worked for me. I need to lift the back end though. I had just used the adjustable feet to tip it forward, but it's not the 11 degrees recommended. This time I'll do it right.

If you just doing this to 'play around' and will be moving it do not store anything to the default area on the NECs. In a RP type of config its not intended to be in a area considered 'living space'. This would be better in a controlled space where it cant be knocked around. RP screens have a different diffusion then FP where viewing 'line of sight' angles matter noted by 'optimum viewing angle' in the install manuals.

Stand in front of a mirror with the lights off, hold a flashlight at eye level then turn on. A FP screen is a reflective screen. Optimum would be your head in front of the tubes 'and or' your putting the light right back into the tube face messing with contrast levels
In 'old school' if you looked at a projection room the optical glass was at a angle and not straight plumb. Doug

Ahhh I get you know. Makes sense. I guess ignorance is bliss. What about making the stand shorter and changing the angle slightly? That woud fix it woulnd't it?

I have quite a few projectors that run front floor inside of a coffee table or such. The screens are higher on the wall or seats are on a riser so reflect this up to the viewing area. Its sort of a science but you work with your room and gain of the screen for the best results. Look at the optical core in the install manuals for a perception of what is going on so you have a better idea of optimal viewing 'line'
If you have a ceiling mounted 'normal' install stand on a ladder and take a look, then take a look at a test pattern. Doug

Busted! I had a feeling we'd get ribbed for a RP setup. I can't do a floor mount in it's permanent home and my 12 foot high ceilings aren't really going to work either. I guess I'll just have to put the projector up at 8 feet high and angle it 11 degrees per manual.
With a ceiling mount they obviously have the projector upside down. Can I have the projector sitting desktop style but shooting down as if it was ceiling mounted?

If your just wanting to do a temp set up for now use it how you want. My comments were mainly if you were doing a permanent optimum mechanical set up for your room and configuration.
The projector already has a built in angle depending on lens spacer settings. Front floor or front ceiling is just a polarity change on a couple of boards and one in the settings menu. Takes a few minutes but read the manuals. Doug
