That is the write once chip so it should not be in danger of being erased by light.
I emailed a guy today that I thought might have a CPU board for your 2600 but he only has a complete 2600HD. I'll keep my eyes open. If you get to a point where you give up trying to get your CPU board going, I have some thoughts on trying to get it going but I would need your board to try. Man I wish I had some CPU boards to experiment on. Its up to you.

Cue the lightening. It's raining outside. Cut to an inside shot of the old castle with MacGyver waring a lab coat, tongs in hand holding Paul's 2600 board while wearing a one eyed magnifying glass In the background we see a Jacobs Ladder powered by a defective Spelman power supply arcing away.
Mac "Igor! Bring me the torches!...."
Igor "Yes master!"

What does the X stand for.
Ampro model numbers followed by letters,
D=Data
G=Graphics
HD= High Definition
M= Modular
X=?
So what does the X stand for? Mine is a 2600X

From what I can gather it means convergence on green option.

Ok, Update.
I have changed the CPU and it now initializes just like it is supposed to. But after a full set up the upperpart of the red alignment goes all out of wack. Upper left is the worst. I can change channels on the PJ and then change it back and the picture will be fully converged for about a minute. Then the red upper portion shifts up
Any one have any ideas?

Some further observations.
If I copy the good channel to another channel and switch between them it will stay messed up. I have to change it to a un-converged channel wait about 10 seconds and change it back,then it will be converged for about 30 seconds or less before messing up. It will do the same thing every time it try it. The longer I have it on the un-converged channel the longer it will stay converged when I switch back. I have left it on the un-converged channel for a long time and noticed that nothing ever shifts.
This makes me believe that something is getting to warm when holding convergence. The very first time I turn it on from cold it will hold convergence for about 5 minutes.
So what part of what board has the chips that control the upper horizontal part of the image. The vertical stays where it should. The red bows up on both ends,more so on the left. It is about 2 inches at the left and 1 on the right on the screen and the screen is only 48" wide. The green bows down some. Blue bows up a little.

Would you say that it is the top pincusion that is messing up?

Yes the top pincusion. Mostly red,then green and a little blue but definately varying amounts and direction.

It effects the top 1/3 of the image. The rest of the image is very stable and looks great.
You can not make any changes to it when it is messed up. The numbers on the remote change but the image will not move at all.

I dont have the schematic for the 2600 but it should be similar to the 3600. Most of those functions are on the registration summer board, but guess what. Its also tied to the CPU board. If it is by chance heat related like you think, I would have it go out and spray cool air on components to see if it straightens out. I'll look over the schematics later and see if I can send you to exact locations unless someone else chimes in with another option. Unless you have boards to try.

It was doing almost the exact same thing 3 years ago when I first put it up. I messed with it for a couple of weeks. Then once when I was messing with it I was watching the screen and heard a faint little arc sound and it straightened out. It has worked perfect since then until The CPU screwed up.

Without the schematics for the different model boards I couldn't tell if they interchange. Scott will have to respond to that one.

Hey Paul. Initally you said it was the Red. Now I think you said all 3 colors do it but to different extremes. Is this correct? This condition my take the summer board out of the equation, or at least most of it. If all 3 colors are affected it eliminates individual color compononts and if the 3 colors are affected differently it takes the master functions out of equation also. Let me look somemore. Scott, what do you think?

Also when you say you loose function control, is this also on all 3 colors, or just the red?
