Howdy,
I've got an NEC 9PG and it mentions under the 'best/worst CRT projector list' on this site that it supports up to 1600x1200 resolution. Some other sites like the 'CRT projector' wikipedia entry and the NEC manual say 1280x1024 is the max resolution and 1600x1200 is only available from the models above, 9PG Plus or 9PG Xtra. I've upped the resolution on the HTPC which is driving the NEC 9PG to 1600x1200 and can get it to sync only at 60hz. My question is:

Can the NEC 9PG/9000 projector display a true 1600x1200 or is it interpolating it back to 1280x1024.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Ahhh the confusion of thinking digital with an analog projector. CRT projectors don't actually have a native resolution like digitals do.

Some digital projectors will 'interpolate' a higher signal down to their native resolution because they only have ONE native resolution.
So if you ran 1600x1200 in to a digital that was only 800x600 it would have to downsample, interpolate or SCALE to its native resolution.

A CRT projector on the other hand uses scan lines to 'paint' the picture on the screen. The higher the resolution the closer the scan lines are together. A CRT's OPTIMAL resolution in the one at which the scan lines "just" start to touch. This uses the most phosphor area ( the substance that actually lights up in the cathode ray tube) and give you the brightest picture.
