It's not illegal to buy those boxes.
Does his computer have firewire or does it have to be USB?
If his tapes are home made then there's no problem but if they're commercial then he'll need the box from the other thread.

ok here goes he is using vista and already has the usb to composite adapter.
he wants one of two diferent software
1 to convert vhs to dvd
2 to convert vhs to ipod mp4
he is only copying movies that he has taped from tv or home movies that he has made so macro is not an issue.
he said he saw the ipod conversion software at compusa ill have to look.
anyway he wants it for the holidays so i better get in gear.
oh yeah i have to go shopping lol

VHS to DVD Transfer is currently the most professional VHS to DVD Transfer which is specially designed to transfer VHS videos to DVD with super fast speed and up-scale output image and sound quality! It supports to transfer videos from DV, VHS Cams, Web Camera to hard drive, create home DVDs and encode the transferred videos directly to AVI or MPEG-2 format. Meanwhile, if you want to transfer the VHS videos to other popular formats, the AVS Video Recorder will directly connect you to the video converter to help you fulfil the task, try!

once he gets the vhs onto harddrive, he can use something like handbrake to convert it to formats that are tuned to ipod or whathave you. that's what i use to move my stored dvds into an ipod friendly format before i go on a trip.
cheers.

Exactly. Regardless of what the SPAMMER says, there's no need to buy anything but the capture hardware. Handbrake is free and would work perfectly for encoding to MP4/H264 for iPod, and is honestly probably better than the software the SPAMMER is selling. I don't care how good it is, anyway... I won't buy from SPAMMERS.
I love how they used "AVS" in their product name to try to leech off AVS' success.
Nothing like dragging up a thread from over a year-and-a-half ago to SPAM your crap software.

I don't think there's anything in the 110 that would warrant upgrading your 100, Tom. I think it can just be bus powered or something instead of needing an external adapter.
For the benefit of others reading this now... Some DV cameras with analog inputs also had a feature called "analog pass-through" or the like. With those cameras, if you put them in record mode, or merely had them connected to the firewire bus with the analog connectors configured in the menu as an input, you could capture live video from the analog input via the firewire bus. So the camera would function just as the Canopus DV interface did, but some of those cameras at this point could probably be found used as cheap even cheaper than the Canopus DV box.
DV over 1394 is definitely an excellent way to capture analog video, though. Much more reliable and easy to work with than many of the other solutions - and more flexible, too.
