Honestly, I totally agree about how CRT is more film like, which it is, however when you speak of these digitals that are very expensive, most of the really expensive ones are 3-chip DLP but honestly I prefer LCOS over DLP any day.

Yes, DLP is sharper, but obviously a CRT guy is not concerned about sharpness as much as he is about how natural the image looks, and how film like it is as well as black levels. So, IMO LCOS is actually closer to CRT than the really expensive 3-chip DLP units even if the 3-chip DLP units will beat an LCOS and a CRT in specs.

I have seen in person on more than one occasion an ISF calibrated $30,000 runco 3-chip DLP and do not think that it is as film like as LCOS.

Are there areas that the 3-chip runco destroys LCOS? You bet there are! But it is certainly not as close to CRT as a good LCOS is (to me at least).

Agreed. Anything more CRT-like is good in my book, and LCOS/SXRD is very much to my liking. My only serious LCOS viewing was the Sony Ruby (SXRD) last year in the FHVideo booth where he had the Ruby and G90 set up side by side with the same HD-DVD as a source. The Ruby was very impressive, but back then it cost almost as much as a new G90 did. But, now that stuff like the RS1 has surpassed the Ruby at a fraction of the price. Because of that, this year is really the first time I've felt like I could be pretty happy with a digital - when I can afford something at that level, that is. That really is a big deal because only two years ago, I didn't like the image any digital produced - at any price. I just didn't like it. Blacks, skin tones, pixels, weird colors, rainbows, screen door, expensive bulbs... the list goes on. Most of that is becoming a non-issue with the newest generation of 1080p machines. I can't wait to see what happens to prices over the next 12 months.

My most recent digital benchmark was seeing Art Sonneborn's new SIM2 HT5000 1080p 3-chip DLP with ISCO lens. I was totally blown away. The 14-foot wide scope screen helped, but it was really amazing. PQ really was stunning. The only thing I didn't like about it, was that it looked funny at <1x screen width. Something just looked "hard" or "digital". I couldn't see pixels or screen door - it just didn't look right. But, my God, who sits that close? When I moved back to the second row, closer to the same ratio as where I sit, it was stunning. Of course, it damn well should be, considering how expensive the setup was.

For a really detailed read on my impressions, see this thread:
Art's AWESOME new digital theater...

Put's hand up. I sit 5 feet from 5 foot wide screen. I'd sit closer but then I kick the stand for the screen when I stretch.
