I got it from fedex yesterday. Today I decided to plug it up and hope for the best. Less than 10 seconds in I got a loud snap and I believe something arced. I saw a light under the red tube and of course got the wonderfull smell of burnt electronics. Trying to decide my next move now. Feel free to advise.

Check to see if one of the tubes has snapped it's neck in shipping. Unfortunately I learned long ago not to ship anything but parts via courier. These sets need to be trucked. It's more expensive, but they get there in one piece. Usually. Not always..Sad. Let's hope it was insured.

Curt, I spoke to you through email about this projector. According to the seller it would not power up. As soon as I can get it moved out of the living room I'll start educating myself on the wrong way to tare down a barco, lol. Don't want the wife to come home to a living room torn apart. I'll check the tubes then. I hope their ok. I took the lenses off and they may be decent tubes. I'll post a pic later. My cost was only shipping, so I'm not to concerned if its messed up bad.

Post a pix of what burnt if the tubes are OK. I'm still guessing a tube neck snapped.

I'm assuming a snapped neck would be easy to spot right, so far I don't see anything broken...

Odd. I found a small piece of wood under the red tube. About half the size of a matchbox. Just laying in the bottom. Half of it is burnt.

I found some burn marks on the plastic directly under the right fan next to the on off push button. Upon inspection of the board there are some solder lines that look like they have been trying to fix something under the fan on the bottom of the board. Plot thickens. Will post pics soon.

The necks seem to be okay. Check out the burnt marks close to one of the fans. In the other picture, can you verify if this is fungus in the red tube or not.

Thanks.

OK, so far so good. Might be cheaper for me just to sell you another supply, I should hvae a good working one here.

Take the lenses off the G and B tubes as well and post those pix. Are those air bubbles in the red tube or fungus?

I'm pretty sure its fungus. I looked at the pics you have on this site pertaining to fungus and it looks exactly the same. I also briefly read through the procedure for cleaning it and think I can handle that fine on my next day off. The Blue and green tube look white when off. Is that normal? I'll post pics tomorrow evening after work. They show the raster (i guess) where the tubes were used in the past. They may have set the projector up poorly as the outline on the tube can be seen barely and is not centered. The raster image is not very dark and has no burnt text or image. We tried taking pictures already but cant get the raster to show up with our cannon eos 8.1. I will get my DVM from work tomorrow and check all my fuses and see if those solder lines are shorted together. I may not be able to re solder, but could possible break those lines completely and solder in wires from the closest post. On the other hand depending on your price I may want to just buy a PS.

I figured I didnt have much too lose so I set the PS up vertically and plugged it in. When I power it up you can see a small place on the middle solder line in the picture above next to the fan that starts to burn. It doesnt look shorted and I cant check it with a meter because of the rest of the circuit showing resistance. Im not the most amazing solderer, but I could try redoing the lines. Or I could cut through the board completely and Install wires. Thoughts?

I fixed the defective solder lines on the bottom of the PS. I then found that the Fuse 3.15A 250V was blown. When I replaced the fuse with a new one it blows on power up. Any ideas. The fuse is F6 directly in front of the left fan. I'm assuming this means were getting to much power to this fuse. So maybe another component is shorted somewhere.
