I'm now running a 2.40:1 screen with my G70 and really prefer it to the 1.78:1 I was running before.

Now before you all jump on me for not maximizing tube usage let me explain my reasons for changing

1). My G70 has interesting tube wear like it had been running a 1.78:1 screen within a 2.35:1 raster.
2) The wear is much less pronounced when it is only lightly visible on two sides rather than a worn in box in the dead center of the screen.
3). The 2.40:1 screen just looks so much cooler and I can finally have my center speaker standing upright rather than sitting on its side (it sounds much better standing up Mr. Green )

So is anyone else running a scope screen with thier CRT

The surface I'm going to project on is 16:9, but the vast majority of movies I watch are 2.35, so...

Main reason I haven't gone full CIH is that I watch demos (www.scene.org for info about that) and they're almost all 16:9, and there's the odd 16:9 movie.

But the phosphor wear's going to be mostly 2.35... eh, we will see.

I have a 16x9 but mostly watch 2.35/2.40. of you use a VP or a HTPC make sure you use active area scaning. This where you only have the active material being scaned by the projector not to waste bandwith on the black bars on top and bottom of the screen. you will b able to then run higher scan rates with out softening the picture to much. Set the out put to 800p for 2.4 and 817p for 2.35 IIRC.then try 72hz as the scanrate. i run my marquee this way but ony at 48hz.
there is a definite sharper pic comming from the projector than using 1080p for the scope movies.
