Hi, a friend steered me to this forum, said some smart people are here. My problem: I have a 5 year old RCA p52929 that has worked good untill about a month ago when I went to rearrange the av wiring in back to make it a little neater. Probably coincidental but it has not worked since. The main power fuse is good and I get a small spark when I first plug it in. It will not fire up by remote or the front panel pushbutton. After removing the back cover and blowing out years of cobwebs I plugged it in (it had been unplugged for a few weeks) and it fired up long enough to give me a screen for a few seconds, then dead again. I've had no luck searching for a manual for it and I'm not sure how much good it would do me if I had one. I've played with most electronics for years but always shied away from tv's because of that hv shock I got from the first one I ever tried to work on. lol. Advice as to where to start looking? Thanks. Jeff

Hey Jeff. I might have the service manual for this. I will check. Also it is very common for this problem when the convergence IC's go out. They are probably STK392's or similar. Have you ever changed ic's before?

and wh would the convergence ICs go out all of a sudden? maybe a static zap through the video connectors, after unsettling the dust?

I snagged a Mitsu 43" CRT HDTV from a guy for free. Blue convergence was out and unfixable. It was the STK chips. In Mitsubishi's case, they spec'd the basic level chip and it turns out they were driving them too hard, and they'd die after a while. This pissed off a large quanity of people. I put in beefier versions of that STK and it's been running like a champ. 1080i HDTV for $25 in chips... can't beat it! Very Happy

I got my 1271q because the artists' workshop that owned it said that the "green lens is broken". It was out of convergence. Twisted Evil

I got my Cerwin Vega VS120 speakers in trade for a pair of $50 crappy Altec Lansings my dad got at an online auction in 1995 (pre-ebay!) and gave me.

Bad convergence chips was a well known flaw in early Mitsu RPTV's. I have a 55805 that went out around 3 years ago (about 4 years old at the time). I'm not a hardware ragu, so I got a tech out to look at it. He pulled the frame that contains the guts of the projector and took it back to his bench. Turned out to be bad convergence chips, which he replaced, and I was back in business.
