I've been doing this import/export thing for years now, and US customs just stuck it to the little guy once again.

AS many of you know, sending stuff outside of Canada via Canada Post is slow and expensive. I found out about a year ago that (love them or hate them), USPS is 1/2 the price and usually twice as fast as shipping from Canada. So what I've been doing is sending everything via courier to my US shipping depot and then send out via USPS or UPS or FedEx from there. ALthough sometimes stuff gets held up in customs for 'inspection', generally everything works well.

Anything under $200 gets classifed as a 'Section 321', and requires a simple amount of paperwork to clear customs. I get nailed about $5.00 per shipment for the courier and customs fees per box (as long as I'm sending down 10 boxes at a time), something that everyone can live with.

Until yesterday. According to my courier, US customs changed the rules and now needs individual customs forms filled out for each shipment, rather than one form per bulk shipment. Small boxes are now costing me about $12-15 customs per shipment. So much for sending cheap parts and $10 'as is' ebay items out the door. I'll get tagged as one of those 'ripoff' sellers that charges $15 handling fee on something that sold for $10.

Thanks, US customs.

I am going to spend the day seeing if there's a way around this, but I really doubt it.

This sucks!.. Thumbs Down

Well I went out this morning to find a $20. parking ticket on my truck for "parking on the wrong side of the street, left wheels to curb" , I was parked in front of my own f*cking HOUSE Mad
This country is turning into a NAzi hell-hole. 2008 they're planning on introducing a law to require everyone carry with them a new Federal government ID with a micro-chip in it identifying you in every way possible. Without the card, you will not be able to board a plane, train, buss, drive a car, or enter a government building.

that was favourite ticket in London Ontario. their argument was that to get into that parking space you would have to have driven on the wrong side of the road.

Bloody revolt is the ONLY thing that will EVER change anything. Does anyone seriously believe UncleSam really gives a sh*t about anything anymore other than getting bigger and more bloated and having everyone else foot the bill??? How else could they possibly justify voting themselves raises constantly and getting really good healthcare and retirement and offering the rest whatever scraps are left over. Don't get me wrong Ron I do love this country and everything she is supposed to stand for, I just have no faith in any of the "chosen ones" to lead it effectively, safely or correctly. It is certainly no different anywhere else on the planet, but at least the Aussies had the stones to say to the whining muslim pukes if you don't like it here, leave.

Sorry they're screwing you at the border Curt. I know for certain I did NOT vote for that to happen....I think we can still vote on things over here....

The border tarriff is just one way the current administration is trying to come up with the cash to pay for the war. AFTER the '08 elections is when every tax paying American will see Federal taxes blown through the roof.

Money is spent so foolishly here in WI that to meet the "budget" (used loosely) our Mr. Potato Head looking governator has even entertained taxing the beds that sick and dying people are in. I wasn't shocked as much as I was repulsed.

Sorry Curt. Sucks. It's going to hurt everyone on both sides of your business and our hobby. I don't think there's a pharts chance in a wind tunnel of reversing it tho...after all, Uncle Sham has spoken.

If you'll excuse me, I have to hit the books and find the new definition of Free Trade.

Greg

I used to be able to drive shipments across the border no problem, but now you need a microchip on the vehicle to ID the car/truck. No dice there.

well heck John, just as soon they ram this down our throats i'm sure they will soon offer and even easier solution. We'll just implant a little micro-chip right under your skin, just below your collar on the knape of the neck. Don't worry, I can assure you it won't hurt and just think how convenient it will be. You will never have to worry again about remembering to carry your wallet around or any for form of ID. the police will just scan your neck and know everything about you. We can even put your medical and credit history on there. No more swiping your card at wal-mart, they will insatntly know how much money you have to spend and what you like to buy.
Just think, if your in an accident and knocked unconscious the doctors at ER will instantly know what your allergic to, what diseases you might have, and also what blood type you are, this little chip could save your life. Better yet, get the updated model with tracking device built in and we'll put in in your kids. No more worrying about kindnappers, they will be able to track your kids by GPS in just a few seconds. Better yet, get the tracking device in your own implant, we can add a monitoring device to it to keep track of your vital signs. In case of a heart attack help will be there before you know it and it will reduce your insurance premiums by 50% in exchange for just a little invasion of Piracy. Why a person would have to be insane not to do this. AAMOF, I hear that they're going to pass a law that say's anyone who doesn't get this chip is automatically a criminaly insane sociopath. I can't wait to get mine ...

Also Aaron Russo's documentary America, freedom to fascism. Submit or die miserable is what they want. Just listen to the information

What no one there hear of REVERSE in London? (ie. drive past the spot and put in reverse into the parking spot). All the time going the right way.

I think the chip is a good idea. It should be implanted rectally so that when we say we are 'getting f*ck*** by the government' we'd be more right that we already are today. Now that's progress! Wink
