Whats on your personal wish list for this upcoming Black Friday?

All the big company's are starting to post up their Black Friday deals early. This website has most of them already listed:

http://www.blackfriday.info/ads/

Black Friday info & deals:
http://bfads.net/

Dell has a 24" widescreen and decent computer for $679 and you get a $100 gift certificate. It's probably a decent deal for a decent computer for anyone looking to spend the cash.

I'm on the lookout for the following:

Deals on tools (I'll be at Sears this coming Friday).

Deals on bamboo or wood flooring.

Deals on appliances (not so much but maybe).

And deals for Ikea kitchen cabinets.

Whatchoo looking for next Friday?

Well, I was going to buy Samsung's new combo HD player, but it's now been delayed until middle of January, so it looks like that's out...I need a new processor with the ability to handle HDMI and all the new audio formats, but none are being made so that's out...geez, maybe a couple Blu-Ray discs??? But no, they won't be on sale.
Guess I'm not buying anything.

I think I'll be staying far, far away from the stores that day. Way too crazy. If there were something I was specifically looking for, it would be one thing... OK, if somebody had a smokin' deal on some sort of Blu-Ray player... say, something in the $200-250 range, I might roll out of bed at o'dark-thirty and brave the lines. But, since under-$300 BD players exist only in my fantasy, I guess I'll be home in bed sleeping off turkey leftovers come Friday morning.

Its silly to leave the comfort of your home 2-6 hours before the store doors open at 5-6AM to stand in line with 200 other idiots for a 'chance' of getting a limited handful of something. And the way people like Bad Buy does it has treated people like cattle coming to the slaughterhouse where then prance you dumba$s down a forced pathway so they can religiously try to force replacement plans and warranties onto you in a manner that you cannot break out of a line and just checkout.

No thanks, the 'perceived' savings considering all of the bullsh!t seems to ID me stupid.

So what is Black Friday over there?

Over here in Australia you would never get anyone celebrating Black Friday with store sales as Black Friday has a different meaning here, think along the lines of Ash Wednesday and the season we are in right now, then think firebugs and you have a pretty good idea why..

I like the reference to shoppers being herded like cattle (or sheeple Razz ) to the slaughter house, I get that impression every time I see the pre and post Christmas store sales and how about when they try and climb over each other to be the first in line Laughing

Ya know, this is just wrong. Why is #2 fuel the same price as gasoline. Gas has about a .43 cent per gal. combined tax and heating oil does not. Plus it's cheaper to manufacture. The big oil Co's are posting huge profits and the little people have to choose between eating and heat.

As far as going green with Bioheat, screw that. If you can't afford regular heating oil, who will be willing to spend .10 cents more a gallon to go green. I know I'm ranting here but two last tidbits of info. Heating oil produces 186,000 btu's of heat per gallon. Bio fuel produces less (I don't know off the top of my head). So that means you will burn more fuel to produce the same amount of heat. It's also a proven fact that bio fuel causes pre-mature failure of oil pump seals and nozzles. Who's going to pick up the tab for that? OK, rant off...

They say here that diesel (3.65) is higher because of less demand from autos. Reg UL is 3.45 at the same station. I could heat the house in the morning if I could burn the junk mail I get each day but we can't use fireplaces now. Doug

I'm not sure when the term came into popular use, but the lots of people here take advantage of big sales on the day after Thanksgiving to go buy lots of Christmas gifts. That's "Black Friday."

The popular version of the story goes like this: Retailers apparently operate at a loss all year long ("in the red") until the Friday after Thanksgiving, when they finally get "in the black" - hence the "Black Friday" term. I think it's somewhat folklore, though.

From what I've read, it was kind of a general term to describe that big Friday shopping day as a barometer of sorts that would predict whether the Christmas shopping season was going to be good or bad - and therefore whether the year would be profitable or not. Now, it's taken on a sort of folklore-ish meaning of a retailer actually going into the black on that very day, which I don't think is probably typically the case.

The little people can go buy some radiant heaters and electric blankets and stick it to the oil man.

Unfortunately in the United States the retailers often say (in the smallest fine print known to man: 60nm) while supplies last. Considering they never have sufficient supplies its just another method of screwing with consumers. The BF specials are typical loss leaders, anyway, so it is not in the retailers' interest to let go too much red-margin product after Thanksgiving.

One study put it at about 7-9%, keep in mind that the BTU content of regular Diesel fuel can vary by 15% based on manufacturer and season

Biodiesel will damage natural and butyl rubber but these have not been used in most diesel systems since the 80's.

Biodiesel can be added to low sulfur diesel to improve the lubrication of fuel pumps, and can be refined to meet ASME standards.Homebrew biodiesel can contain corrosive leftover chemicals if not properly refined but most of the injector problems reported are "lacquering" of injectors, and this would happen with regular diesel as well.
I do not think Biodiesel is the "be all-end all" solution to future fuel problems ( especially up here in the frozen North) but it is the only alternative fuel system that is fully mature, works with the vehicles we have, and can be distributed with the existing system we have in place.

If ALL the U.S. corn and soybean production was used for biofuel it would still only meet 12% of Gasoline and 6% of Diesel needs. With players like Cargill,ADM,ExxonMobil,Chevron, and BP lining up for government subsidies and grabbing up markets, it looks like the days of food prices being linked to oil prices are already here.

As far as the Black Friday thing....I really doubt that any retailer could spend the first 11 months of the year in the red!! I have always thought it was just the start of the Christmas shopping season, and as so many Americans go home for this Holiday it is a great time to get some "family" shopping done.

EDIT: Damnit,I am starting to sound like Mark..... I am going out to the driveway to start up my truck and let it idle for half an hour Thumbs Up then I am going to spit on my own window.
