How many times do we need to see this in writing, I know...but it has never happened to me so I was kinda surprised and humored and kind of annoyed all at once.
I was at Best Buy burning up some rewards GC's when we were wondering through the flat panel HDTV section. A 'mom' and her teen kid had just purchased what appeared to be a 42" HDTV and they began to ask about Hi Def DVD's and which one works with the xbox since the kid already has one.
The blue shirt proceeds to explain that actually blu-ray offers more resolution so that is the one people with HDTV's are buying.
Wow! I feel like I had a close encounter here.
Even funnier is that my wife bumps me on the shoulder and says to me, "Did you hear that guy?! He is telling them that Blu-ray is better!" I am definitely not one of those types to step in and correct anyone but I was really close.
Sorry but this has never happened to me before on this HD stuff. Definitely before on computers though....
I got a kick out of it...and then I saw The Big Lebowski (HDDVD)for $17! I love that movie!

I take great pleasure in pointing out salesperson gaffes. It's been a while, but the first time I went into a Future SHop (Vancouver based chain, now owned by BEst Buy), I got kicked out. THat was back in 1983 or so when a buddy and I were walking through and I was pointing out the differences between a $400 and $800 VHS machine. THat attracted the attention of an older couple, so I gave them a rundown, which they appreciated, but my recommendations were promptly overridden by the commision sales person who was trying to sell the $800 machine. The couple smiled, shook my hand and walked out, at that point I got asked to leave.

What is worse though is that Best Buy is not on commission anymore.
These guys have no reason to push Sony stuff...unless of course upper management is pushing it because of the higher margin...which I suspect is the case.

It wasn't your time yet? Using a metal detector? Ummm, prying a 69 Shelby hubcap off a headstone? Pissed on a politician? Stole flowers to bring home to the wife? WHAT!!?? Inquiring (and sick) minds wanna know!

Nothing so fancy, I was at the Necopolis here in downtown Toronto (cool name ) it's a cemetary that was moved in the 1930's to it's current location. There are headstones dating bak to the earl 1800's. We were happily shooting pictures and security came and asked if we had a permit. "No but were can we get one?" He wasn't expecting us to ask. Then I made him look up the phone number for the office as they were closed on Sunday's.
We got kicked out AFTER my friend had shot about 120 pictures outside and I had shot the whole inside of the funeral chappel on print AND slide film. I really took my time too.
The funny thing is there had to be over 30 photographers there. We however were ther only ones with tripods. I've run into that before. Shoot with the camera around your neck and no one says a thing ( most of the time ) shoot on a tripod and they ask for a permit.
No big deal, we just went across the street to the farm and visited the horses .

Getting back on topic and away from head stones and horses.
I have interrupted sales people that were feeding a load of sh!t to people just to push a higher priced product. I've been asked if they can help me and based on what I'd over heard earlier I've said "No thanks, I know more that you."
Most just walk away.
I did get VERY dirty looks when I was about 12, the salesman was trying to sell a VCR with MTS decoder to a couple. HE was telling them that the MTS decoder would give them free pay TV. I had to step in on that one. At first the people looked like they didn't belive me. Then I explained what MTS stood for and what it would do for them. They said they don't have a stereo TV and wouldn't hook a VCR up to the stereo. They thanked me and walked out.

Most cows (like my parents) go into the store and trust the salesperson (I DON'T KNOW WHY!) to lead them to the best location for them to drop their hard earned money.
I wonder if you can return items based on misinformation you receive by a salesperson? I want to get a job there on the weekends just to educate people who come into the store. Not that I know it all, but I definitely know (ie read on the internet) more than most blue shirts I have met.
Plus I could get some discounts...hmmmm.

Carefull, you'll end up with lot's of stuff, no room to move and no food in the fridge. A friend of mine got a job at a Sony store once. He was broke in no time.

I am looking at the flyer for a local electronics shop that specs a Toshiba HD-A3 as 1080P ,1920x1080p, 1080p/24 and it comes with 7 movies!!!
why do I think that typo is not going to lead to a stack of HD-A30 or HD-A35 in the store....
