Hello, new to this forum, but have a question.

I have a problem with my new HDFury coming out of a Lumagen VisionHDP into my Mits WS-65311. It manifests in rolling black lines and general black level problems.

My question is how do you determine the exact/optimal vertical refresh rate of your monitor/display? When I switched this from default of 59.94 to 60.00, the problem improved significantly, but was still there to a slight degree. Trying out other frequencies from 59.90 to 60.10 did not resolve the issue at all, mainly stayed slight, but not nearly as bad as at 59.94.

Is there a way, without expensive gear, to determine the exact frequency you should be using for your display? I've read other threads where people have it dialed in to the hundredths, such as 74.67 or whatnot (just throwing a number out there, don't remember exact values). Do these symptoms sound like a vertical refresh issue?

BTW, I have looked at every manual, spec sheet, etc, for my RPTV and sources, but have not found anything that points me in the right direction. If vertical refresh is someting I would get from my RPTV's manufacturer, would I need service manuals to get that kind of info?

Not all displays like different refresh rates. Computer monitors and CRT projectors are very good at sync'ing to just about anything so the BEST refresh rate for those is 100% dependant on the source material you're watching.

In the case of 24 frames/second film, for a CRT projector the best refresh is therefore a multiple of 24 with the 59.94 NTSC refresh factored in such that 24 actually becomes 23.976 frames/sec. 23.976Hz is way too low for a CRT projector so we either double it to 47.952Hz or triple to 71.928. You can't do that with most sources however. You either need a home theater PC or a scaler.

Now RPTV's like yours are completely different and likely don't like ANYTHING other than the standard 59.94Hz.

So to make a long story short, check with your manufacturer as to what refresh rates your TV can accept.

Interesting thread. I have a Mits Diamond WS-65907 and I have NEVER been able to get an HTPC to sync at anything above standard definition. I blame this on my ignorance, though.
