So, I just picked up a mint Killer Instinct II cabinet last weekend. Everything seemed fine when I was playing it at the sellers house. Brought the bad boy home and gutted everything out. I had removed all the jamma cables, PCB etc. I then rewired the cabinet with Jamma-Xbox cables and hooked up an Xbox running Mameox with 50K games (I do have original roms for all of them, by the way Wink). Anyways, the colors on the screen where all screwed up at first, with everything being all green). So I quickly stuck my little hands at the back of the cabinet and started adjusting colors. It did make the picture a bit better, but still, it’s almost unplayable. Red, has thick bars on the screen and everything that is supposed to be white is actually blue. Another thing is that the convergence is out on all colors, which I think makes the colors screwed up. How do I fix this on a CRT TV? Is there a way to also degauss these tubes?
Thanks in advance.
Chris.

It sounds like it needs degaussing. Most TV shops should still carry a degaussing tool, but a soldering gun will work in a pinch. The coil in a soldering gun will provide the magnetic field to degauss the tube.

Well, picture is still the same. Anyways, I had found out that xbox does not output RGB 15Khz and it outputs sync on green, that's why I believe my picture was green. I can't seem to find anything that is remotely 100% right on the net when it comes to right pinouts or actually purchasing something that's already made. Does anyone know anything on how to properly output RGB signal out of xbox into an arcade monitor running at 15Khz?

Thank you
Chris.

Try This, I have one myself that I use for the optical output for 5.1 surround sound.

You're kidding. I had no idea a soldering gun threw a field like that. Better keep my credit cards away from it. Smile

Well, component or composite won’t do as I’m using an original arcade monitor. What I apparently need is an RGBSG (S=sync, G=Ground) input into the tube.

I believe that is a medium res arcade monitor. (NOTE: NEVER plug that in directly without the isolation transformer. best case is you will blow it up, worst case is you will die)
so first thing to note. it is NOT a TV. it won't take composite video. its RGBHV @ 15khz. Most sources will not output that low of a scan rate.
you can get a video card to output that. there are off the shelf cards that are made for arcade monitors.
if you want to use an xbox, it might be easier and cheaper to use an old TV in place of that monitor. you could probably sell the monitor for three times the cost of a used tv.

Can't you get RGBHV from the SCART connector?

Chris.

I think you are talking about RGBHV, this would be the seperate sync of Component video ..

Well, you guys don't have to panic anymore. Everything is under control. I had made my custom plug for xbox last night. Tricked xbox into outputting SCART and then just pined out RGBHV out of it. Everything looks avesome on this 25" tube, and the only thing I'll need is to customize a 5V video amp to make the picture brighter, 'upgrade' xbox to 128MB and I'm set. This xbox to jamma conversion seems like a way to go instead of sticking a PC in the cabinet. It turns on with the cabinet at the same time, and boots right into the mameox. Best $350 I had spent this year yet. Space Invaders, here I come! Only if I could find some flip ashtrays and cup holders for it now.........hmmm......

Thank you
Chris.

sounds good.
I've been building a cabinet with a swapable control panel.
you cannot play defender properly without the correct control panel layout.
I'd like to see two things....
#1. we need a track ball for games like centipede.
#2. I want it to read some control lines so that the box knows what control panel I have inserted and only offers the games able ot be played on it. (pipe dream) Smile

Honestly this is the second week with my first xbox, so I don’t know much yet, but I know that with the xbox-jamma converter that I have, I can have 9 buttons on each joystick. The cabinet came with 6 per player originally and I won’t be drilling any holes in the cabinet until next summer, but I will be sticking more buttons when I get a chance. Wouldn’t this be enough to play Defender?
Also if you have two different control panels, couldn’t you just customize your emulator to run specific games, and then load the same emulator with different games in a different directory. When xbox would boot is would give you an option to run this or that. I’m pretty sure it can be done.

Chris,
could you please explain what you did as I have and xbox and a 22" monitor that I want to set up as a Arcade Machine.
The monitor has RGBHV input so this sounds like it could work

We arcade collectors don't like you guys gutting machines. Destroying a perfectly good working arcade machine.
I think it's just such a SHAME..
