I have just had directv hd installed. My zenith 895 does not seem to do 720p properly. The picture is displayed but only green. Do I not have anough scan rate or maybe the dvdo iscan+ is adjusted wrong. 1080 onscreen says it is not supported. HELP

What kind of signal were you sending the projector before you got directv hd?
Are you trying to send the projector a component signal? I'm pretty sure the 895X will only accept RGBHV signals for HD, not component.
I don't have a Zenith projector, and am not very familiar with them, but I think it should do 1080i (not p) with no problem. Should display 720P also, but the tubes may be a little small and the scan lines may overlap.

i am sending rgbhv to the zenith from a dvdo iscan+. i realize the zenith has only 7" guns. i though this would still do 720p. maybe the scan rate is too low or i have something screwed up. the picture is green, like the blue and red guns are off.

Are you getting the signal picutre on the green tube or is the green tube just lighting up?
What happens if you switch the red and green or blue and green BNC's?
It sounds like a sync problem to me

It's been a while since I got rid of my iScanHD, but somewhere in the menus, you can choose which colorspace to output, I think you should try "the other one".
Sorry for the lack of detail, but wanted to give you something else to try.

it plays perfectly on 480p. just 720p is green. it has a picture but green. the iscan blanks the screen when i hit the menu. seems like some kind of a sinc issue.

Is it an HD+ or just a DVDO +? A DVDO+ is a doubler only, and neither unit will accept an HD component signal. You need a transcoder for that.

OK, do I understand right, that everything works fine at 480P? Projector displays picture from directv through iscan? Menus display correctly at 480P? How is your directv receiver connected to the iscan? Is the iscan down converting to 480P? Does the iscan pass through 720P without any conversion? Have you set the 895X up for any inputs other than 480P? It probably won't display any other resolution correctly, than what you have the input set up for.

direct reciever is connected with component, crt is connected with rgbhv from the iscan. i do not know how to set up the projector any different. it seems to auto sync at around 44k. i have been trying to get a different setting but so far no good.

The component sigal from your direct tv is sync on green, which when you pass through is why the green is only lit. The Zenith wont except sync on green which is what Curt was trying to tell you, and thats why he said you need a transcoder for the conversion. As to why it has a pic at 480p, how do you know your sending 480p to the projector. If you set the direct tv to 480p but your not on a HD channel it will only send 480i and the iscan may or maynot double it and that maybe why you get a pic.

curt and you are right. i just found my answer on anchorbays site. i misunderstood curt. i though he meant an iscan hd+ would work. after reading his response again i see he said no. i'm screwed with my existing setup. oh well. now i could use some recommendations for a scaler/transcoder.

OK, let me sum up.
1) The DVDO HD+ will not accept any higher than a 480p component signal, so a true HD 1080i or 720p will probably show nothing, a scrambled pix, or MAYBE a green pix.
2) Doing nothing else but switching the DVDO to 720p from 480p should work just fine. I'm assuming there's no way you can set the DVDO to output component at one resolution, but not at another?
The Zenith WILL accept sync on green.
I can't see it being projector related. Maybe the DVDO is bad?

If the Zenith will except sync on green then he should be able to take the iscan out of the picture and connect the direct tv to the projector.

He can, but he'll still get a green screen as the Zenith won't decode a component signal, just an RGBHV one.

i connected the directv component out to the analog pass thru on the iscan. the crt sncs on green and has all the colors. i will have to adjust to get it better but i can see that it will work. however, the 480 output from the sd channels have scan lines and look worse. curt is right, a transcoder is in order. i will need one with sdi. lumagen hdp pro or iscan vp50. seems to be a drastic difference in price. thinking of the future, should i be considering hdmi for a possible future display or is compnent just as good.

Correct, which is what I meant by the Zenith cant decode the sync on green signal. The transcoder is needed to decode the component analog signal (Y-Pb-Pr). Actually in this instance it is reverse transcoding.

I think I have the same problem with my 895x. I also connected a RGP wire from my DVD to the unit and when I went to that particular "source" all I could get was a "green" image. I called a technician, he played around with the setup remote and instructions, but he couldn't figure it out. He said everything is connected and there's a good signal to the reg, green, blue lenses (everything lights up). However, when I put the "source" as plain video which only uses a single video wire, everything is fine (full color). There's something in the RGB configuration that's obviously not right. There's a whole bunch of settings that can be entered like "standard signal mode," VGA 400, VGA 480, HDTV 33, NTSC-RGB, Factory 1 Video-NTSC and others. The unit is currently set to "NTSC-SOG" signal type RGB. The technician thought that may be the problem. Before experimenting with all of these, do you have any advice about this problem or is this also a transcoder issue? Where do I get a transcoder? Thanks!
