I understand from reading in this forum that it can be desirable to have the blue tube slightly out of focus, but mine seems excessively so, or perhaps too bright, not sure. I have a Sony D-50 with good tubes, and when I try to focus the blue tube I can barely see a change as I roll through it. I can get decent focus when I turn the brightness and contrast all the way down, because it's the only way I can get any detail in the H pattern. When I then go to converge, with brightness and contrast back to normal levels, the blue lines extend past both edges of the red and green lines, so it is white surrounded by blue, looks more like a light saber than a white line. Are there any adjustments I can make to un-fuzz my blue tube?

remember that it's normal for our eyes to see "unfocus" blu, even in good conditions (try to see a blue neon on night and a red one!).
However, if your blue is very out of focus, perhaps you have to set the magnets on the tube to improve the astigmatism and flare. Search the forum, you'll find answers. It's a dangerous setting, so do it at your risk and read very carefully all the instructions before try.

So is this the only adjustment I can make for this "problem"? I fear death by massive electrical shock, and am not sure I am ready to die for my projector just yet.
I am guessing it is flare or some other level adjustment, since it can be focused when I turn the brightness down.
Thanks!

How many hours are on that blue tube? ES focus tubes lose focus with high hours, and even if the phosphor is still in good condition, replacement is the only remedy.. If the previous owners left the machine on with the picture muted(black screen) for long periods of time, and often, this will run the hours up without wearing the phosphor, BUT wearing the cathodes in the tubes.

If the seals on the stig magnets are intact, I'd say it's the tube itself. You're saying you don't get a dip in brightness (slightly) as you get the blue tube focused as best you can? You should see that..
