So I finally got the free blu ray disks from my PS3 offer so tonite I decide to try one out. First I couldnt get my Quee to lock on to the signal ie wouldn't sink with it. Then all of a sudden something smoked in the quee. When I hooked it back up to my 1080i sat receiver the quee was working fine. What would have smoked, I mean there was s slight fog in the room. And it works like nothing happened.

It wouldn't have been glycol leaking onto something hot would it?

They use glycol in some fog machines where it is heated but then forced through a nozzle.

I hope the smoke wasn't magic!

That's usually enough to kill most machines.

Seriously though you might want to open it up and have a look around with a flashlight.

Clearly your Quee isn't Blu Ray compatible. Did you really think it was? Blu Ray's secret plot to wipe out ALL CRT projectors is moving right along.... yeeeess.

Anyway, did you have a look at the Moome card? Sounds like I'd start there since the PJ works fine otherwise.

Also, check the capacitors in the PJ. A cap can let go and smoke up a room without killing the Projector. You'll know it when you see it.

Marc

Guys,
I think the smoke came from my blue neck card. I started watching the PJ and the blue was acting flaky so I turned it off. I will investigate tonite if I get a chance. I am wondering if it has something to do with the mod that I did to the neck card for the LUG.

The weird this is that the PJ was having trouble locking on the 1080p signal from PS3 (No prob with menus- only Blu ray) through moome but has no trouble with 1080p from 360 through RGBHV.

I highly doubt that this has anything to do with Moome's card.

You mod'ed the blue neck card and today the blue neck card started to smoke. I don't think that that's a coincidence unfortunately. Smile

I don't think it had anything to do with the moome card either. I can see how the title definitely makes it sound that way though. Confused

Does the PS3 through HDMI at 1080p have more bandwidth somehow that the 360 through RGBHV or is the signal handled differently somehow in the Marquee?

Well I pulled off the neck card off the blue tube and found the culprit. It was a capacitor that was added to my neck card when Greg E. did his mod. It got hot and burned the foam that is glued to the aluminum neck card cover. I replaced the modded capacitor with a surface mount one from a salvage neck card I have and redid the LUG mod to include the 1M Resistor as pictured. Everything seems to be back to normal for now. I will see what happens when I try the BLu ray from the PS3 again.

Was it a surface mount tantalum cap? If so, they can simply just short out and blow up.

But it WAS a cap!!

You're almost right, Sony (through Blu-Ray) is only trying to wipe out the E-homes and the Barco's. The Ampro's will eventually all die on their own Wink and Sony has their own plan for their projectors (by cutting off parts supply to their flagship model they scare off most potential buyers). Rolling Eyes

But yes it is all part of Sony's plot for world domination Mr. Green

Glad you found the problem Smile

Caps don't usually get hot and if they do then they usually blow up soon after they get hot. Are you sure it wasn't a resistor? One of Greg's mod hey, hmmm.
