|
|
I got a broken 3300 awhile back and decided to get it up and running. Well the battery was gone with only about 0.8 volts and the Green CRT card was bad and the Red CRT card had a shorted capacitor across the power input. That's all fixed now and I'm ready to start seeing how it'll look in place of my now broken 4000. Decided it was time to move up.
So all the settings would go to 49 every time I powered off until I replaced the battery. This means the sub settings and master settings are all at 49. What's a good starting point for these so I can get a picture? I've never had sub settings before as I've had the old 4000 for years. Should I set these high to start and bring the master's up for a decent brightness and contrast and then use those sub settings to tweak later? I've got all the manuals but they don't really give any information on good settings to use since it's supposed to be preset at the factory. That's only if the battery is good.
Thanks,
Mike

That is a good starting point. They are midway of the settings. The sub bright and sub contrast is for adjusting grey scale. From the mid way position you can go up or down as needed.

Thanks.
I figured out my real problem. The last owner was not knowledgeable about what he was doing. When it stopped working due to the shorted capacitor he must have started messing with the G2's and anything else trying to get a picture. I foolishly assumed the G2's were close enough to get started. I'm now thinking the Green CRT card may not be bad either. The G2 is probably totally turned off.
The Green CRT was replaced sometime in the past and it doesn't have a radiation shield. So I'm taking it out and putting one on from my parts machine.
The +25 and -25 volt supplies run high (33 volts) and the registration amp over temperature keeps cutting in and out. The large heat sinks run cool but that tiny heatsink that the temperature sensor is on heats up fast. I don't understand why the 25 volt supplies are so high as it's running off the same winding as the other low voltages.
Looks like I'm going to have to do a full factory alignment.
Good thing this is a hobby!

It's best to leave the sub-brites at 50 and use the G-2s to set the cut-off and dark color balance. Definately use the sub-contrast controls to set the white color balance.
The 3300 should look better than your 4000. Which tubes does it have?

I've got it working good enough to watch it now. I ended up switching to the older of the 2 I have as it was fine except the green tube arcs internally. So I took the green from the newer but troublesome machine.
The tubes are Panasonic 180VB22.
Looks like I'll have to adjust the mechanical level a little better to center things better vertically. So far so good.
