Can anyone tell me the differences? I goggled for a good 30 minutes without finding any actual definitive answers.

Are the ultra features really that useful for HT?

Guys!

The Ultra was introduced in Canada by Electrohome in mid-1998 in an effort to streamline their projector offerings. They had the base 9500LC, a High-Scan version, and a Dome version which had special geometry circuits, so all of these were combined into one chassis. H scan was raised to 152khz for certain virtual reality applications. V Skew and Top/Bottom edge keystone were also added; a number of boards were reworked or redesigned to accomodate the new features. By fall of 1998 the offerings were the 8110 (not Ultra) the 8500 Ultra, 8500LC Ultra, and 9500LC Ultra. Dome users merely ordered the appropriate lens option; most 9500LC Ultras shipped with GT17s. New main firmware for Ultra started with v4.2c; VDC has continued to add refinements and the firmware now is at v8.something.

Nice links, Scott!

9500LC vs. Ultra has been debated to death, but not all of the Ultra secrets have yet been unlocked. I am pretty interested in the upgrades received from '03 and on, since I've not seen, handled or heard about much of anything from '03 to current Ultra builds.

Some interesting VDC threads from the old day. Rolling Eyes
