TV/Projector: Sony G90 X2 - Vidikron Vision 1

Posted: Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:58 am    Post subject: OK - they arrived but the Vision 1 doesn't look like a one

Hey guys, the machines from the second seller arrived.

I don't recognise the Vision 1 - I thought they all came in the nice flashy case but this one looks like an ordinairy 9500

Any ideas?

Oh here are some photos: (the lfirst one is the G90)

PS The G90U - in the manual it says 120V. I've read they are universal voltage, what is going on? Is it a simple change of the fuses?

Tube pics are coming! My dad was totally exhausted as he and one other guy (I have a bad neck) lifted them both up a flight of stairs by themselves. I think he's damaged. He has to pull the lenses off as my right arm doesn't work due to spinal damage

My father opens the G90 manual and on page 2 it has a picture of 4 guys lifting it

He looked at me and I turned bright red.

"Son, you said two people could be enough"

Now I'm worrying about the power supplies. All the literature that came with them says "120V" - even the Vidikron.

Yet alot of web pages all say that each projector is 90-260V

If anyone knows for sure - let me know

Cheers

Has anyone seen this? The remote on the Vidikron looks like somone has chopped a triangle in it (brutally) to fit through a wired remote interface cable, I'm guessing +X volts, -neg and data on the line?

The remote itself looks like apart from the four AA batteries, there is room for some type of NiCd / NiMh battery too.

The first picture is the model number of the Vidikron if anyone recognises it?

The chopped triangle is for when it was a wired remote. I have some with the triangle and some without.

For some reason, the lenses in the Vidikron are these HD10GT17

Aren't they stock G90 lenses? The G90 has HD10Fs. Maybe the HD10GT17s were taken off the G90 and put on the Vidikron and 10Fs were put on the G90 and the old Vidikron's sold?

Hmm!

This thread officially deserves a:

YOU SUCK!

Hey, I feel really good that you didn't get shafted. THe guy really seemed like a scammer. I also figured a Vision 1 would have gotten you a fancy case, but hey, for free, who is complaining?

Thanks mate. I think you are right, the Earth is spinning strangely due to the incredible shift of weight down to here!!

Curt, have I got a Vision 1, just one in a Marquee style case? The model number means nothing to me.

He did sound like a scammer, but once I got to know him- he is a seriously nice guy. As evidenced by the Vidikron I got for FREE

So a G90 (and its in VERY good condition - it actually has that "new" smell) and a (unknown 9" projector with Vidikron markings and Marquee parts!) for 5k. It would have been a good deal at 3 times the price. He has really looked after this gear, its immaculate - the Vidikron was still wrapped in the factory refurb wrapping!

And it looks like the second G90 leaves this Friday!

Great news Oliver!

So what are you going to do now, a blendzilla on every wall and the ceiling? Laughing

Don't let those things cross-breed, who knows what you might end up with. Razz

*grin* Dave, what a great idea.

OK, G90 - I want you with that Barco.. we're aiming for a Sony 1209.

And the other G90, you are with the Vidikron and that Sony Pearl. A Sony digital Vision G90.

Seriously though, the digitial is to make nice star patterns on my roof (this is all they are good for) and the rest will be my new 360 screen with a swivel arm chair.

Cool, I love it!!! Thumbs Up

So would you be using 4 torus screens to give a more full and seamless view?

The digital can be mounted in the coffee table and could be used for intermission decorative lighting based on the movie being viewed next, Star Wars gets a starfield pattern during intermission, Finding Nemo gets an aquarium screensaver etc.
The only use I could find for a digital, even then I couldn't justify the expense for the projector or the bulbs let alone the indignity of having a digital in my home theatre. Razz

The previous owner has just told me that it is a Vision 1 but the first generation that came in a standard case. He also seems to think that its an ultra. 1997 build, is this possible?

tim might know better, but I think a 1997 vintage is a non Ultra. Do you have V skew controls? The non Ultras only had H tilt.

I just emailed Tim as your post came in Curt.

I haven't fired it up yet - I'm too scared (on both the G90 and the Vidikron) that they are 120V only because the faceplates on both don't mention 220-240V at all.

The G90 manual is the same "110-120V ONLY" for the G90U - except the G90M and E are meant to be 220-240V.

These aren't the sort of things you Nike when it comes to power!

The Vision is auto switching, I believe (but check with Terry) that the G90 is the same. Plug that baby in!

Actually Dave, in my entire house, I don't use standard light bulbs or fluro tubes.

Everywhere there should be a light fitting, I have hung a digital projector with the lenses removed.

The illumination is actually quite good and they double as a talking point.

Lets get one thing straight, there's no such thing as a Vidikron with Marquee parts. the V1 Is 100% Marquee 9500LC. Vidikron simply added the fancy case (at some point), and color filtered Red C- element. The GT17's are stock on all V1's that I know. If it's a 97 it's not an ultra, it's a standard 9500Lc. I would check the P14 voltage and make sure it's within spec. It might also need the anamorphic squeeze mod?

Dragan, its ok - I was joking about the "unknown" etc bit - as I didn't know what it was. I've since found out its just a Vision 1 but an early generation one

I'll check the P14 voltage. Is the anamorphic squeeze mod able to be turned on and off? What happens if you just want 16:9? (tell me about the anmorphic squeeze mod Smile I guessed it was a mod to allow 2.40: 1 from a 1.85:1 source but I'm probably way out
