There is everything to say about stefuels advice tho. Location, location, location. I was off 18 degrees my first attempt and it wasn't until I started from scratch and did it all over that I realized I'd been cheating myself out of a better image.

I have a general question about mounting and flapping I'd like to ask. Is there a way to determine if flapping is to blame for poor corner focus as opposed to inferior mounting? Having asked that, flapping can be artificially (we'll call it) used to overcome bad mounting but what else would that affect? Magnetics? Electronic astig adjustments? Electronic focus?
The answer I'll prolly get is...just make sure it's physically aligned right in the first place and I understand that, but for the sake of argument I toss that all out there. (Because I still don't know how it all interacts)

Have a great weekend folks!

Greg

EDIT: Perhaps this would be a good time to ask the pros to list the steps of a good setup from crate to popcorn again?

Greg was not the forum member I was refering to which goes to show you that it happens more often than you think.

Has anyone actually posted a detailed thread or document which details the magnetics adjustment procedure which it appears I must perform for optimal results? Thanx.

Yes, check the document that I attached in the beginning of this thread. Or do a search on magnetics & marquee to see the hundreds of tidbit threads calling for magnetics help.

But learn how to set up the projector before you start attacking the magnetics. Magnetics are for advanced users only and typically you will make things worse before you make them better. It takes a LOT of hours to get magnetics looking decent. The first few weeks you'll only make things look worse. Laughing

Is it OK to set up magnetics in floor orientation, then mount projector to ceiling? Is there a consensus on this?

I have my Marquee mounted in the celing already, and currently it's projecting on the wall. I have a sheet of WilsonArt laminate on the floor that I'm going to make a frame for. Would it be best to hang the screen and then go through these steps, or go through these steps and then hang the scren based on the center of the tube face?

Aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves? What is the model of your Marquee? How egg shaped are your blobs? If you have an 8500 or newer, and your blobs are slightly egg shapped and not flared, you may only need to do the zone astig and not have to touch the magnets at all.

Walt, if the *center* blobs are egg-shaped, you're best off to correct them with the CPC magnets. That way the electronics don't have to do any work. Use the zone astig for the blobs *away* from the center.

Rdean, I see no reason why you couldn't do the magnetics on the floor, unless you're concerned about your unistrut mount being slightly magnetized or something like that. Even in that case I doubt there's be any noticeable difference in spot shape.

I only have one obstacle to achieving better magnetics than I currently have...my height. I'm 6'4".
The bottom of my ceiling mounted 8500 is ~6'1". Barstools are too short and make me look like I'm an armed robbery victim, so I can't accurately make adjustments without my arms starting to shake. Evil or Very Mad Forget about standing under it...it takes a week to get my neck straightened out of that valley girl tilt.... Rolling Eyes

And yes....I would like some cheese with my whine. Thank you for asking. Laughing

Hell, Greg, I'm 6'4" too. Who needs to tilt your head like a VG? I mostly do it by feel. That's how I'm so certain there's nothing dangerous back at that end of the tubes. Smile

Well, I'm a little more confused now; Why did Walt specifically outline that "If your Marquee is an 8500 or newer, and your blobs are slightly egg shaped and not flared, you may only need to do the astig and not have to touch the magnets at all" - Why is this the case (is this due to the fact that the projectors may have more updated / modern electronics ?) Again, my blobs were egg shaped yet I distinctly took heed to the fact that they were three distinct egg shapes overlapping one another; Does does denote that the magnetics require adjustment based on the description which I have provided? Thanx Very Much.
